1) Query Letter
Prospective authors interested in working on one the projects listed on our Call for Authors page should drop us an email introducing yourself and letting us know why you think you are suited to handle the project. If you have written for us before you can forgo the introductions.

              Send Your Queries to: travsubTravellerRPG.com
2) Outline
If we like what we see, we'll ask you to present us with an chapter outline of your proposed book along with a 3000-5000 word sample from one of the chapters. For articles of 10,000 words or less skip to step 3.

3) Contract and First Draft
If your outline is accepted you will be presented a writer's contract for the job. At that time you will be expected to present a rough draft of your book within a specified period based on the size of the project (see below). For larger projects, until the first draft is finished and submitted, monthly updates will be submitted showing the current progress. Each draft submitted should conform to the proper Submission Format Guidelines and follow the standards set in our Writing Guidelines.

    Draft Submission Deadlines
    From date of contract acceptance
  • Small Article (up to 2000 words): 1 Week
  • Medium Article (up to 8000 words): 1 Month
  • Large Article/Small Book (up to 32,000 words): 2 Months
  • Medium Book (up to 64,000 words): 4 Months
  • Large Book (up to 132,000 words): 6 Months
  • Huge Book (over 132,000 words): 6-12 Months
4) Editing and Rewrites
Additional editing and rewrites will be expected after the rough draft is received based on the your editor's comments.

5) Publication and Payment How and when you will be paid depends on what you are writing:

Traveller's Aides and EPIC Adventures: Writing a Traveller's Aides or EPIC Adventure that is eventually published in electronic and/or print format pays a flat rate of $250.00 payable within 45 days of first publication. Payment is made only once, regardless if the issue is released in both electronic and print form.
The Traveller's Aide series is a good place for new writers to get their feet wet and give us both a chance to see what you've got. Popular Traveller's Aide writers are more likely to be asked to participate on larger projects. As with all material, we purchase all rights.

Books: QLI/RPGRealms pays authors on a unique scale based on overall sales of a product allowing them to earn anywhere from $0.02 to $0.05 per word for their work. The better and faster it sells, the more an author will earn. The base rate of pay for any author is $0.02 per word. This will be paid out within 45 days of the date of first print publication. This base rate is always paid regardless of actual sales.

              Base Rate: $0.02 per word

If a product sells enough copies within a certain milestone period, the author will receive a bonus check. The table below gives the sales and milestone requirements and the bonus paid for each:

      Sales Bonus
      Copies
      Sold Milestone Period Bonus
      0-999 - -
1000 within 30 days of publication $0.01 per word
1500 within 60 days of publication $0.005 per word
2000 within 90 days of publication $0.005 per word
5000 within the first year of publication $0.01 per word

This system ensures that both the author and we as the publisher share in the risk. A well-written and received product will earn an author more than an ill-conceived one. It also ensures that the author is paid a minimum of $0.02 per word no matter what happens.

      Payment Schedule
      1. 10% of the projected author's fee will be paid within 45 days of the delivery of the first complete draft manuscript. This will also act as a 'kill' fee in the event the project you are working on is cancelled. In the event a project is cancelled all rights will revert back to the author.
      2. A final payment of the remaining balance owned to the author (90%) will be paid with 90 days of the date of the first publication of the product.

Eligible bonuses will be paid earned within the first 60 days of publication will be paid with the final payment. Bonuses earned after that will be paid within 45 days of the passing of the appropriate milestone period.
