Default Scalable deckplans in Mongoose PDF's

Dear Folks -

On the Traveller Facebook page, someone mentioned that the large-scale deckplans in the Mongoose version of Fighting Ships do not scale well when printed out.

Is there a way for genuine purchasers to get scalable copies for printing?

Pretty sure that's is unfortunately impossible as the originals where done in bitmap format.

You could either contact Matt or the original creator (Travis Leichssenring?), they may have larger images.

I use vector images. Zero issues with scaling.

There are some new maps in the new Highguard though

Matt has, in the past, been unable &/or unwilling to use vector images. I don't know whether it's by ignorance, or by software choice. Been a complaint for years.

Draw them oneself. In a decent vector package.

Yep, although all the ones I did for him are vector based.

Did he include them as vectors, or rasterize them in the release?

It was awhile ago.

To be fair Matt does not do the layout. I know that if you use the .ai files in a pdf they zoom in perfect, I did know that at the time. Their guy asked for image files (not .ai) - I think I used huge .png images.

I did offer to re-do all the core manual images as vector images. Did not like
the idea iirc

I recall a Matthew comment at one point that the sector posters were really expensive to produce, so while he *may* be protecting the idea of doing poster-sized plan sets by not including easily scaled plans with the book PDFs, he may also not be in a hurry to do large format paper plans. DiyD, etc.

Hi guys,

The 2d deck plans that we do as a free download should be scalable. If anyone is having issues there, let me know!

As for large format paper plans, times are a-changing. We are going to be using a new format of poster for sector maps (starting with Pirates of Drinax), measuring 28" x 40", and much better printing quality than before.

On the reverse of that poster, half of the area will be taken up with deck plans (and some other bits and bobs) of the Harrier. In addition, we may have deck plans posters in the forthcoming Great Rift box set, of which there will be more news later this week.

Finally, we are also talking seriously of biting the bullet on this and doing a 'giant ship box set' along the lines of Azhanti High Lightning, but with 21st Century production values (the current front runner for this set is the Planet-classes of cruiser, allowing us to effectively get three ships into one box set).

That is probably for next year, looking at our current schedule, but it is on the cards.

Hi Mat,

this is probably the wrong place, but my favourite 'big' ship is the Wind class Strike Carrier, if you are thinking of doing a set of deck plans.

I'm not sure about the Planet, the only place I've seen that was in the Highguard example, so I'm not sure how you get 3 ships from it?

Kind Regards

David
