Oh, sitrep:

I've run A1.2 for 3 groups, two sessions each for two of them, using both their intro adventure and my own adventure.

I'm liking the feel. It really rewards players cooperating and having their characters cooperate.

No players had issues using the mechanics; one was notably unhappy with them.

A1.3 draft out. Atts changed a bit, foci delinked from skills Disciplines... but also no longer ranked; they use the discipline's value instead.
Haven't gotten to reading the ship rules.

Friday I run A1.3 again.

The biggest ways are that Assisting is the only way to exceed 5d20 in a pool, and the cheapest way to get 3+ successes.

The 1.3 draft changes the way foci TN's are calculated - they now are boolean, but raise the 2S bar from 1 to the skill rating.

there are 4 ways to get extra d20's in you own pool: spend momentum (banked extra successes), give the GM threat (which is GM momentum), spend a determination point (but the Det die always rolls a 1...), or have a talent that grants one.

The other ways are for the "guy in charge" to give you an order - you get his action, and his help-die, which doesn't count against the 5d20 limit...
or for someone to have spent their action to help you before you roll. Again, doesn't count against the 5d20 limit. In combat, players noted that it's better to gang up on tough opponents (help actions) rather than each try on their own. Less momentum spent, more gained, and more likely to succeed in melee.

And, since the RAW are now better matched to the RAI , melee is quite dangerous. If you don't succeed, they do... and hit you on YOUR action. (Then can turn around and hit you again on theirs.)

Lots of "nudges" to cooperate.
Unless you're a tellarite. In which case, your values can earn you Determination by NOT cooperating, because, well, "Tellarite."

Hehe...

The designer is actively participating in discussions, and actually listens to well reasoned arguments backed by episode references... Doesn't always change his mind, but he does read and respond...

Tried the ship rules friday. They work. They have a few issues... which are matters of scaling and finessing a few numbers rather than methodology.

Like how many shots a Romulan Warbird can fire before it has to retreat to prep more torpedoes...

A damaged warbird is no match for a fresh Constitution... but a fresh pair is major clench time.

The Warbird's 7 Combat Dice of damage isn't that bad - it's the fact that it does multiple hits - an additional half damage hit per Effect rolled. (Not on below table).

the ship will stop 3 with soak and 10 with shields, and take 1 breach for downed shields. and 1 for 5+ after soak...

The Mode is 6D 2E -
which means a 6 point hit and 2 additional hits of 3 points...

But note than an Exploit Weakness action can result in +3 CD... an expected result of 8D and 3E... for 8, 4, 4, 4.... doing 4, 1, 1, 1... 7 of 10. No big deal... "shields at 20%, sir!"...
Unless you take two of them.
The second blows the shields down (doing a breach), and each additional hit does a breach... so 4 breaches. Potentially a kill.
The third one will do four more, and likely kill a Constitution...

But the Warbird can only do this thrice. Assuming it hits...
And it's not assured a hit, either.

Got the Char Gen, players tried it out last night.

10-step lifepath-based system

Start with flat 7 atts and 1 disciplines for PC's
Each step after adds to one or both of those, plus adds more.

In each step, it's roll-or-pick.

step 0: get the basic profile (777777-111111)
Step 1: species
Step 2: world
Step 3: family background
Step 4: Academy
step 5: length of career
step 6a: Career event 1
step 6b: career event 2
step 7: "finishing touches"
step 8: transfer points (from overlimit atts to lower atts, and from overlimit disciplines to lower ones)
Step 9: determine rank and posting

works nicely, but no enlisted support.

I realized on the way home from the pharmacy today that...

You can use a UPP-like record for STA characters...

the six atts in sequence in hexidecimal/travellerecimal (Atts cap at 12 for PC's, and about 14 for the best NPCs seen so far...).
Then the 6 skills (Cmd Conn Eng Sec Sci Med)
Then, list the foci
The the Values
The the traits.
Then the talents
