"I guess you have all the tools, materials and technicians needed to make those modifications here, as mine are in Scotland, and you know better than myself how to make them" says McBean. "If you think the Highlands Pride will be adequate, the sooner we begin the sooner we'll have it finished, and then tests would have to be done".

I'm not afraid about bullets, what scares me is the speed at which they're incoming.

"We'll have the boys haul her into the hangar on the 'morrow, then. Tea?"

9 A.M., Monday, 9 Jan 1887.

In the hold of the Highland pride, three camera windows have been installed, with rotating armored shutters, in the forward end of the cargo hold, and she's been tested as far as lunar orbit. The camera can be dismounted, as can the map table, but both have been adjusted to lock to the pride's inbuilt tie-downs. The developing lab is crated, and aboard. A crate painted with "McBean, ammo" is aboard, and in the fore port end of the cargo bay; the bill lists:
2x bandoliers for .12ga shot shells
5x box 20 rounds .12ga Shotgun
2x box 100 rounds pistol shells .45 Cal
1x bandolier for pistol ammunition.
1x whetstone set, company
1x gun oil, pint
1x blade oil, pint
1x Machete
1x Helmet, Pith, white
10 tons of dried rations and 2 tons of water have been loaded, too, all in barrels, stacked and lashed to the aft outboard corners.

The Highland Pride is tethered out in front of the Director's House; the Major is reading the paper in the lobby of the house, a cup of tea to hand, and some paperwork on a folding table beside him. An empty and comfortable chair sits nearby him, and another holds Lt. McPhee, also with tea. As McBean arrives, "Ah, Mr. McBean, please, join us! Just formalities left for you. We'll keep on the trials crew, at expedition pay, unless they refuse. Mr. McPhee is being sent as liaison and surveyor. A reporter and a mission scientist should arrive soon. Their bona fides have been checked, their CVs are good, and they're likely ready to depart after equippage."

Gents, enter scene as you find appropriate. Please also indicate time/date of scene at top of post, above the quote. Last minute showups welcome, too.

Monday 9 Jan 1887, 9:45 AM.

Davey arrives a bit late due to holdup acquiring a shotgun and some ammo (he isn't very interested in a trophy, and would rather not have to). He is satisfied with the interview and photos he got at the cricket match though he plans to get some more photos before lift-off. He spots McBean and goes over.

"You're McBean? D'you mind if I take a few photos of the ship and crew before we take off?"

A steward offers to take the gear on a rolling cart, and a folding chair is brought out, and set down near the others.

"Would a Frenchie accompany us? What are the mision commanders think about?" thinks McBean to himself.

"No objection by my part, you should ask the Major" he answers, nonetheless, trying to seem polite."By the way, have we been introduced?"

The Major rises. "Mr. McBeam, Inventor and Airship Master, Mr. Lawton, of the Cornishman. He's documenting the expedition for us, and writing it up for the Cornishman, as well as other tasks as needed." He waits for the obligatory handshakes, then resumes his seat, setting aside the paper... open to the cricket scores.

"We've one left to interview," he continues, "and he looks to be suitable. He could be here any time before noon. May I see your weapons, Mr. Lawton?" The major inspects cursorily the weapons, then returns them promptly, scratches out a note on a card, flags the steward, who disappears with the card. "We'll load a box of ammunitions for you. Any last minute equipment requests?"

McBean just wants to buy some more ammunition for his shotgun and revolver, knowing that they will only have what they carry with them...

How much? They're open to negotiation on additional. They are, after all, already providing him with several hundred rounds.
