Thanks, Aramis! Very nice. Was this part of your preview package?

Only thing I see right off that I would do differently is change the font on the subheads to something more easily readable.

If I manage that, I'd be happy to share, but maybe IP probs. Well, if I figure it out I'll post instructions.

I've yet to update it for the core. I'm actually busy working on my One Ring campaign rather than diving into the details of FF.

I played a little game of this with Chris (ChaosBennett) tonight, and we had a lot of fun. I wrote an AAR in my blog.

While I responded in your blog...

For when difficulties are needed but not generated by a major GMC...

page 265
  • Difficulty die
  • Trait die representing the situation or location
  • Minor GMC or Extra die
  • Scale die
  • Complications that work against the player

Difficulties (p. 264):
  • Very Easy: d4 (AKA: GM needs a plot point)
  • Easy: d6
  • Challenging: d8
  • Hard: d10
  • Really Hard: d12 (Examples use Very Hard)

Dregged this up from a while back:

In case anyone thinks they are going to do so - the adventures can be converted, but the mechanics work on such a different basis that "conversion" of stuff (ships, gear) from the Firefly RPG to Traveller means, quite literally, "writing from scratch."

to Restate: There's no hardware to convert. The Ship system doesn't convert - it's pure narrative goodness, but totally incompatible with being converted usefully. There is no weapons list, no list of personal gear.

I agree with Aramis. Don't buy the Margaret Weis Firefly game looking for setting details to convert to Traveller. Other than some maps and info on the 'Verse that I had not seen before, there is no big amount of Library Data, ships, vehicles, weapons, or anything else to convert. (I don't know about the Margaret Weis Serenity game.)

Nor would I really consider this system as a substitute for Traveller for my main SF RPG campaign.

BUT... it sure as heck makes for an easy pick-up game for players who are already familiar with the Firefly TV show and/or Serenity movie, easy to use established characters or make up new ones, fit right into the setting and away you go adventuring, having fun, playing the game rather than learning a lot of rules, as the ruleset really stays out of your way; only the GM needs any deep understanding of the rules, and then mostly for setting Task Numbers.

Minor Gripe: For some reason, they chose the font for headings and section labels to be a cursive script similar to the one used for the series title Firefly burning in each episode intro. Making headings harder to read than the standard text does not strike me as a Real Good Idea.
