I've searched my MT rules and can't find any rules for building robots anywhere. Is my collection larger than I can handle, or is it CT Book 8 that I should be looking in?

Looked in my MT stuff (RM, PM, IE, RC, RSB). Can't see any Robot rules in there. I'd use Book 8 with the errata that's available (can't remember where I saw it though)

There is a section on robots in the Imperium in the Referee's Companion but no building rules that I can find.
I'd just go with LBB8.

There were no rules for robots - so you have to use book 8

OK, I'll see if I can find Book 8 then. Thanks.

See if you can pick up 101 robots from DGP. There are lots of very nice designs. There are robot rules in the early JTAS issues (reprint book 1 covering issues 1-12). That has building rules. It is similar but less complex than book 8
Cheers

Book 8 is in the CT Reprints: The Books. You might be able to pick on up on eBay, Amazon, or your FLGS. Plus you can go straight to the source: Far Future Enterprises
Hope that helps,
Scout

Also, if you have Best of Dragon, there are robot rules in one of the older dragons, too. Different, but also good. (in fact, I prefer the dragon article rules to the Bk8 or JTAS ones...)

Some of Book 8 came across to MT. For example, legs (table 7, "Contact-Based Suspension" and table 8, "Contact-Based Transmission").
This was then mixed in with stuff from Striker. However, not enough of Robots made the cut, and the differing rules systems were not cleaned up sufficiently.
When I create a robot, I use the Bk 8 rules, supplemented with elements of MT and 101 Robots.
And I use my own, cleaned-up version of the rule when designing legged robots. See:
Beowulf Down ==> Tavonni Repair Bays ==> House Rules ==> Reconciling Robots, Pt 1 (two articles; one has the explanation, the other just the tables).
I never finished Part 2; it was going to be a cleaned-up/enhanced version of the Bk 8 tables. Try Jeff Zeitlin's site - I think he's got my proposed errata somewhere there.

This apparantly was a thornier issue than I had imagined. I have the Dragon Magazine archive, so maybe I should start there.
