I liked the old clunker, it's something I'd love to find in a game. Confused on the rear though; that one looked like the cargo bays were rear facing but another looked like it was engine output. I'm skimming at work so may have missed more explination.

I don't think I have doors painted or carved on the ship. It is a mystery still how stuff gets in and out.

Big O' Engines will go into the openings in the back. I still have to model those.

Okay, I'm using numbers from CE so bear with me if it seems off. I'm going to make it a Far Trader mostly because I like Far Traders.

B Drive space is Jump: 15, Maneuver 3, Power 7. Total 25 dT (12.5%) of a 200 dT ship.
Fuel: Single J-2 is 40 dT. Four weeks Power operations is 8 dT. Total 48 dT (24%)
Fuel scoops (0 dT) and 2 dT of purifiers for 40 dT purification per day or 1 off-line for 20 dT purification a day for 2 dT (1%)

While 37.5% might seem like a lot, most of that space does not have to be in the rear. The side "wings" and top bit can hold the entirety of the Jump drive and Power Plant. Fuel can be stored in all sorts of spaces. Only 3 dT of Manuever drive need extend aft and some of that would be all around the ship to cover pitch, yaw, and roll maneuvers. Enlarge the "ports" on the outer aft edges and you'd be good.

That means people in the front, engineering in the wings, and cargo in the middle to rear. If each section is semi-modular the ship configuration can grow as needed. With standard containers it becomes efficient at loading and unloading. With seals it could even dump cargo in space and pick up via robotic arms.

Hardpoints top and bottom keep power lines to the weapons short. Maybe an explorer has a modified hardpoint on top to fire sensor drones while they scoop and refine fuel in a new system.

An option to include advanced sensors in the nose cone module.

I'm liking this!
