Default Locating TRAPPIST-1 on the Near Star Map

Has anyone plotted where TRAPPIST-1 and its seven planets would be on 2300's Near Star Map?

According to Wikipedia, it can be found at Right Ascension 23h 06m 29.283s and Declination −05 02′ 28.59″ and 39.6 +/- 0.4 ly.

I'll worry about the Right Ascension first.

Stars on the Map that I find info for include 85 Pegasi at RA 00h 02m 10.16s, and Fomalhaut at RA 22h 48m 04.47s - so TRAPPIST-1 should be at an angle in between those two stars.

Very roughly towards the Chinese Arm.

85 Pegasi has a given range of 39.5 +/- 0.4 ly, so their ranges are quite close - roughly the same distance from Sol.

Declination's different though.

I foresee a bit of trig in my future, and see if it's in range of ships traveling the Chinese Arm.

This runs into the issue of trying to extrapolate current star data into the T2300/2320 maps.... short answer is, you basically have to start from scratch. Or, hand wave it in where you feel appropriate on that side of things and work from there.

Alternatively, Project Rho has some good "real-world" star maps on the side, in varied scales. Or Sci-Fi Arizona's "Astrogators Handbook", although I don't know the last time either was updated.

Yes, smacked into that wall, I should have remembered that sooner!

It seems to be off by itself at any rate. It should be (roughly) at 38.4, -9.6, -3.5 in terms of Near Star List coordinates. I have a few more distances to check.

I was trying to use my copy of the Observer's Handbook from the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada to extrapolate a few things. They have an interesting "Table of Nearest Stars" listing 52 stars within 16.3 lightyears, and not all of those appear in the Near Star List. So it's safe to conclude that there might be a few others in that neck of the galaxy that aren't included on the List.

Thanks for the tip about Project Rho, I'll have to check that out!

As an aside, here is about where it would be hex-wise on the TravellerMap:
https://wiki.travellerrpg.com/TRAPPIST-1_(star)
(See History & Background section)

You should be able to work backwards from parsecs to lightyears and some trigonometry to place it on the Near Star Map.
