I think somewhere on this thread someone mentioned they did a write up of a shoulder dragon. That would be kind of cool to add to the "official" list of equipment or ship's mascots.

To A Different Drum by Reginald Bretnor (1986) has dragons--though there is no sign that they breathe fire.

For those interested in miniature plastic dragon figures, Safari Limited has come out with a large variety of dragons for every taste. Quite nice looking figures, but not cheap. You are getting what you pay for though, as the quality is high.
