I only knew him for his work in Traveller, but I like most of it.
My prayers for him and my condolences for his family and friends.

I'm not afraid about bullets, what scares me is the speed at which they're incoming.

I remember Buying his last copy of TARSUS. Though I never met him personally I feel I've lost another friend....

While I've been a Traveller player since very early (1978 or so) I only knew Loren through the early online spaces until 1994, when he was manning the GDW booth at Origins in San Jose. We chatted while watching Frank demo Battle Rider.
He will be missed. I miss him already.

I was deeply saddened to learn of Loren's passing. I only met him once or twice in person, but we worked together on several projects over the years, and I always found him a pleasant and considerate editor or co-author, and a kindred spirit for his deep interest in military history and wargaming.
Some of the things Loren wrote personally for Traveller- like 76 Patrons - were so well done I continue to use them as inspirations today. In the early 1980s under his editorship JTAS magazine was the most exciting game magazine of its era, there was nothing else like it. Everyone in my gaming group looked forward to every issue - when we could get it, as they flew off the shelves - and it did a lot to establish concepts like "ongoing metaplot" and the look and feel of the Traveller universe.
Rest in peace, Loren.
We'll miss you
