Default Quantum of Solace

I'm a HUGE Bond fan. I've read all the Fleming novels and short stories, and all the one-offs like Colonel Sun and The Autobiography of James Bond (really a good book despite the title). And, I've read all the Gardner novels (some are truly excellent, while others not-so-much). And, I'm in the process of reading the Benson Bond books, plus the new one by Sebastian Faulks.

I love the Bond from the novels. He's gritty. He's pulpy. He's much more realistic than most of the Bond films in existence.

Of all the actors that have played Bond (I've liked them all), Sean Connery and Daniel Craig are the two closest that fit the character in the novels.

Story-wise, and entire-movie-wise, the last two Bond films have been closest to what is presented in the Fleming novels (except maybe Connery's From Russia With Love one one or two others).

This is a long-winded way of saying...

The new Bond film, Quantum of Solace, is FREAKIN' FANTASTIC.

It's Awesome.

It's a worthy follow-up to Casino Royale.

I love it.

Great film!

I'd read a couple of reviews that stated that QoS isn't as good as CR. And, I'm wondering if we saw the same film.

QoS has a lot of action, sure. Yep, it does tip its hat to Bourne in the beginning. But, it's a great spy-action movie. If you liked what you got in Casino Royale, you won't be disappointed.

Heck, I'm going to go see it again.

BTW, if you've read the Fleming short story, Quantum of Solace, the only thing that story has in common with the movie is the title. Which is kinda 180 degress from Casino Royale, which followed the book more closely than any Bond movie since the early Connery films.

Also, if you haven't read Quantum of Solace, you should. It's my favorite Bond story Fleming ever told...and it's not at all what you would expect. It's an excellent story, all by itself.

NOTE: If you plan on seeing Quantum, I highly recommend you first watch Casino Royale again. Qunantum picks up exactly where Casino left off, and like the Bourne movies, it references plot lines and characters from the first film without informing the audience. The film expects the viewer to have already seen CR (and remember it).

Quntum is really a direct continuation of Royale, and for maximum viewing pleasure, watch Royale again, pay attention to the plot, and then go see Quantum.
