Yes, the FNGS seems to be a dying breed, just like music or normal book stores. When I need things these days, I look to the net. eBay. Amazon. And other gaming stores. And, that's just for the hard copes (which I prefer--I'm not much on pdfs).

We've got a few gaming stores left here in Houston, but none are real close to my house. I rarely go to them as it is just easier to look up things on the net and compare prices.

Plus, I'm just as apt to play an out of print game than one that is not. Like right now, if I went back to D&D, I'd have to make a decision between D&D 5E and going all nostalgic by playing AD&D 1E. It's a coin flip.

Sometimes, I don't know what I'm really looking for, but after doing a little Google-fu, I find it. I found the Arcana Unearthed adventures this way, and I love 'em. They're perfect for adaptation into my Conan game.

I spent the weekend reading the free 5E SRD - today I just pre-ordered the whole set of MRB's, plus the Starter Set, on Amazon for ~2/3 the cover price. Last year I had tried to run my fantasy campaign using the 1E rules again. While it worked ok, the biggest complaint was that there were still a number of house rules, plus we have a range of people who simply aren't that familiar with 1E.

I have no problem with the staggered release - that's how I had to buy my original 1E books...

I like the way 5E reads, it seems like a reasonable compromise between the ultra no-skills 1E and the crazy-skills of 3E/PF (neither of which I played, I stopped using the system mid-2E). I am pretty sure that my players will be happy to have a basic, understandable rules system - which the SRD certainly is. They'll also appreciate the things from 3E that I've never used - stat gains, actual skills, etc. Though there aren't any Feats in this document it seems like there will be in the PH and I'm sure they'll like that as well. I am positive that we'll all enjoy the increased speed of character advancement!

All that said, I'm still likely to run MGT as my next game .

Not up here, they don't.

In Oregon, they did.

And in some places, they've outlawed plastic bags.
