Default Alien RPG

Note: Traveller could easily be used as the game system for a game set in the Aliens universe. I think a game like 2300 would work extremely well.

The Aliens: Colonial Marines comic presents a story that could easily be turned into a nifty mega-adventure for those of you who really enjoy the second movie and want to play Colonial Marines.

One of the things I like about it is that is shows what life is like on a world that is different from what we've seen in the films. Here, I'm talking about Bracken's World. It may be a water world. Only one part of it is shown, so that aspect of the planet is not determined. If you saw the recent film Interstellar, where the heroes go to a water world, but the part they land on is only shin-deep, then you'll have an idea of what I think is possible on Bracken's World.

Bracken's World is one of the US colonies. They focus on kelp farming. In fact, there are miles and miles of these squared-off spaces across the top of the water surface, with nets submerged, stretched between the squares. You can see this in the distanced in the pic link below. People can walk on the nets, and the water is only about knee deep.

The farmers use hover-tugs. You can see them in the harbor.

I thought this a fresh, neat setting for an aliens adventure--something different from the 100% space borne adventures we usually see.

Most of the hardware has 2300 parallels already.

I've got the old Leading Edge version - it's playable, deadly, and a great sourcebook. It's worth noting that the travel times are multiple jumps between systems. The map is in jumps of 1 day and 5 LY; ships up to 5x faster than the base are possible. Also, it uses a displacement drive capable of (maximum) about 0.33C pseudovelocity....
Oh, and while it doesn't have the 100D limit, it has a 0.2C minimum to engage the Jump Drive. Accelerations in N-space PV are equivalent to "hundreds of G's" - which means it's going to take a little bit to get up to speed. At 100G Pseudoacceleration, the Displacement Drive will take 16:40 to hit 0.2C...

Just giving some numbers to play with for the conversion; the Tech Manual gives similar info to LEG's game.
