see the
TML faq on DGP. [EDIT] this link seems to work better though skip back a question as well
Some more info here.
DGP is considered "fuzzy canon" and the DGP books will at some point be obsolete. The reasoning has been explained by IIRC Hunter here on CotI and LKW on the TML. (tho of course I can't find it at the moment )

Huh. That's interesting, but I guess I'm not getting why Avery/M.Miller quit involving himself, and why DGP felt they had a lack of control of Traveller's development. I mean, they had control over Traveller's publishing, right?
Ah well. Whatever the reason I'm sorry whatever happened happened. And if it involves clashes de'persona, then I'd rather not know. I just hope that the DGP stuff can see the light of day again.

The DGP material seems to be very well produced, and jam-packed full of interesting info. What I would miss is the adventures which never got built.
What I won't miss is the Vilani language material. Without a standard to derive from, they let their idiom sort of drift all over the place, creating headaches for whoever wanted to find consistency...

Having discussed this via private email with R. Sanger via email back in the mid 90's:
1) the stuff listed in the back of MTJ4 was included in his purchase
2) almost none of it was in prose form yet; some was merely schematic.
3) he'd not, at that point, done anything with it, as he couldn't come to terms with IG nor MWM.
4) He didn't know enough about the unfinished stuff to finish it.
5) he felt he got shhafted since the DGP license from GDW didn't come with the IP's
(Reality of #3, he wanted FFE/MWM to purchase his rights for much more than he paid for them. Ridiculously more.)
(Reality of #5: caveat emptor. He probably didn't ask until it was too late...)
Rodger has some great ideas, but they have little to do with Traveller... and Rodger's not likely to ever be able to bring them to print. He might be able to bring them to e-print... but he seems geerally incapable of follow-through.
