Exclamation Prayer request for sabredog

Our friend sabredog is having some surgery this morning, 05 Sept 2019. I don't understand it completely, except that it is to reinforce damaged vertebrae in his neck to prevent loss of use of his right arm, which is obviously important.

He has been shrugging it off as No Big Deal, but the description of the surgery that he posted on Facebook shows some risk to the spinal cord. I'm requesting prayers on his behalf, for a successful surgery and recovery, and for calmness and competence for his surgeon and medical team.

If you don't pray, how about some good vibes or happy thoughts or whatever support you can give him. Sabredog has been a member and contributor here for a long time, and deserves whatever degree of support we can give him.

He has my prayers and best wishes for quick recovery.

I wouldn't say it's no big deal, as any surgery has its risks, but if I understood right what you're talkin gabout, this is not a too risky surgery, probably reinforcing the affected vertebrae with a titanium plate (or more likely to substitute the the intervertebrae disk).

If so, that's quite common a surgery , though more usual in the lubar vertebrae than in the cervical ones.

Hopefully it's an outpatient surgery. I'm more and more convinced that the most dangerous place for a person to be is in a hospital. Anything that gets people in and out of them as soon as possible is a good thing.

I pray his surgery goes well. Hopefully it isn't for anything major?

all my hospitalizations worked out fine for me. including the one where the surgeon walked up and said, "I have to inform you that you have a 30-40% chance of dying in this operation."

Here's hoping the surgery went well, that there were no complications, and we will receive an update on his status.

Had an email from him about an hour ago. I hope he won't mind me sharing some of that with y'all. Surgery seems successful as far as its goal of restoring feeling in his right hand, but seems to have increased pain in his right arm. Hard to tell if that's permanent until he gets through the general pain of healing from surgery. Gonna have a pretty impressive "cut-throat" scar - surgeon went in from the front, which seems weird to me.

Yeah, I believe he went home same day, or the next. Minimizing hospital stay is definitely a good idea. My wife and I have spent WAY too much time in hospitals the past 7-8 years, and it seems we quite often pick up something extra such as a cold virus or sinus infection while we're there, no matter how much we wash hands, etc. (and I'm referring to whichever of us was not the actual admitted patient, as well!).
