Default Folding Spear

For the "barbarian" who has everything, a spear with a folding shaft, allowing easier portability on starships (for those barbarians who leave their homeworld).

Why not the weapon ensemble from the Predator series?

A spear always struck me as the medieval or classic era soldier's goto weapon, and more of a hand to hand thrusting deal than a projectile weapon.

But, an accurately thrown spear is something worth contemplating.

upgrade to an electro-stun spear. combination stun prod - emp weapon, and a "barbarian" already will know how to use it.

for added upgrade, make it grav-driven for throwing. nothing spectacular, can't "achieve orbit" or anything like that, but he'll be able to throw it several hundred yards. add targeting guidance and "recall" - return to point of origin - and you've got quite the combat tool.

The English had bills and the Swiss had halberds.

For the ship's locker, an axe pick.

I would prefer a good boar spear, so as to keep the big ones at a distance. The problem with a bill or halberd is that you need room to swing it.

It would be hard to say which weapon killed more people, the spear or the sword. When you read the Iliad, spears are as prominent as swords.

Edit Note: A good crossbow or two would not be a bad idea in the ship's locker either.

TL1 spear - 3 cr, any shmo can make one, usable anywhere without further support.

TL-3 folding spear - 25 cr, any TL3+ mechanic or metalworker can build or repair one, usable anywhere without further support.

TL-12+ Flykiller wonder-spear - 10kcr, requires high-tech electronics plant to make, requires elect-2+ & electronics repair kit (and replacement parts) to keep it working, requires a recharging station for the power-cell.

A grav driven self seeking "fire and forget" spear?

You people are killing me.
