Default Why ...

A couple recent issues I'm going to address the "why" behind...

No hidden links
Primary reason? People should know where a link is taking them.
"Clicky Clicky" type stuff is particularly annoying and will be infracted, not warned. This is an OLD policy.
The minimum expected is either the name of the owner of the site (EG [a=""]US Copyright Office[/a]) or the stuff between slash #2 and #3, eg CD's at [a="][/a].
Also expected is, if the page is anything other than a basic webpage, what kind of file. Such as [a=]US Copyright Circular 1 (PDF)[/a]

No emails in posts
generally, excepting mail-list signup/exit links, and certain published/public emails, send them via private message instead.
Why? because
  • posts stay pretty much forever.
  • bots can crawl the site and get stuff that normally only members see
  • spammers sometimes get through to harvest emails before being stupid and posting spam.

No group attacks
This includes "all players of X are yutzes", and also, "It's impossible to misconstrue the rules the way you do." Both are attacks on a group of people. There are certain hotbutton issues where this is extremely common behavior.

It's not a modern political correctness issue - it's basic courtesy.

No Real World Religion nor Politics - not even related to the game's setting - outside the political pulpit
It's been a MAJOR issue in the past. As in, hurt feelings, threats of legal action, and users quitting.

Politics -
Real world politics are, for our purposes, post 1970. Pre 1970 is History. Limited exception as noted in the Twilight 2000 board
