Note the lack of understanding of the meaning of "Military" on tactics. Navy is military, as well.

Mongoose is the version that thought that Merchant Marines were Marines serving on Merchant ships. I still get a chuckle out of that every time.

I get peeved, as both were mentioned in playtests.

You'd think they would've tried looking up some of this stuff. We have the Internet for that, and if the power is out you can look it up in encyclopedias.

CE is a lean clean version that largely echoes the Mongoose 1e SRD.
Mongoose 2e is a streamlined and different interpretation of Traveller, not that different to 1e but with some design changes. Adds Boons/Banes as a D6 modifier to resolution.
Both are very sympathetic to to my view of how to play Traveller, and both are very easy to use with CT and MT materials.

IMHO..

CE has allowed the 3rd party 2d6 publisher to keep going and ALSO has inspired a rush of creativity, and it's all good.

It's obvious that they're referring to the paramilitary arm of the Merchant Marine. Q-Ships and Assault Stevedores.

When I was training at the Army Transportation at Ft Eustice, they were training stevedores. So that would qualify, yes?

Has Boons/Banes rules appeared in CE at all yet? I suppose there's nothing preventing them from being ported over other than preference.

Boon/bane is proprietary to MGT2e so no OGL for it - I think you would be on a sticky wicket to rip it off directly.

Call it advantage/disadvantage and rip it off from 5e D&D instead

re: Boon/Bane:
Keep in mind you can add any rules you like, from any other ruleset, to your own games. You couldn't sell your rules without changing some names and wording, but your games can have anything you want.
CE doesn't really have an "official" version, and lots of people around here are making their own versions, based on their favorite rulesets and houserules. What CE is, is a starting point for you to make the game you want.
