Vargas,

Older books are image scans like this, though there is text "behind" the images. (Old TSR PDFs are like this, too.)

Newer books with the electronic original available had PDFs made from that, so are a bit slicker.

Hmm, I sat through the download of Windows 2000 Service Pack 2, (you can't load Adobe 6 for 2k without it), Adobe 6 and then the quirky MT Players Manual download, all of it for free via the net (via broadband.) It was a long process as far as I'm concerned (an hour+).

Let me say up front: Yes it's free. However . . .

Previous posts on the quality of the scans are correct, they're not that sharp. I have to wonder if that's average for DTRPG . . .
</font>[/QUOTE]If the scans were sharper the size of the file you had to download would be 10x larger or more. The lower resolution is used to keep the size down while remaining legible.

Unfortunately there is no way around this really.

Point taken, thank you for the insight.

Also, if it's any consolation, while the soft scans seem disconcerting at first they aren't any harder to read than high-res scans of printed pages with edge aliasing artefacts.

I recently scanned a couple of chapters from a very old CP2020 book (only way to read it without an allergy attack). At 400dpi, which is excessive, it was no easier to read than Hard Times from DTRPG.
