Default Squadron Strike

Has anyone else seen or pre-ordered Ad Astra Game's Squadron Strike?

It's a simplified version of their 3D starship combat system with an added ship design system, which enables you to simulate the drives, weaponry and so on from any film/book/game setting.

I see at least one guy on the boards there interested in designing the hardware for 2300 AD. It could be an interesting replacement for Star Cruiser.

Cool interesting....

Ummm, not so much needing 3d battle system yet, and frankly the thing is your .sig....how many times did the Referee turn to another player and say "OK, you open the door and get a clip full of your crewmate's weapon of choice, let's roll some damage...?

I have preordered it, too, and am frankly looking forward to have a look at it.

I liked Attack Vector: Tactical by the same company, but I find that a little too much for casual gaming, aside from coming "pre-loaded" with a default setting (which one might or not enjoy).

On the other hand, Squadron Strike will be smoother to play and generic in scope. Or so they say.

I have AV:T too, but like you, I simply don't have the time to devote to it or gaming buddies sufficiently interested to play it with. It takes a considerable investment in time and energy to play it well.

I really liked the Ten Worlds setting, but they haven't supported it strongly enough for my liking. The rule book gives a broad historical and socio-economic overview, they have one supplement that adds rules, some fiction and some more setting detail and colour, and that's that. There are mailing lists, in which the setting is developed, but getting a sense of the setting in those lists is like trying to understand the news by listening in to the journalists' coffee break.

I certainly hope that SS will offer a more playable system, a simple vehicle for gaming in lots of different situations and settings. Adding the 3D aspect of space combat certainly adds something to the experience of the game. After all, 2300 went to the trouble of building a 3D stellar setting, only to revert to a flat plane for battles among those stars.

That only ever happened once, and the guy totally deserved it.

Thanks to you alerting us to this new game, I happened to see it being offered in Game Trade Magazine and asked my local gaming shop to order me one. I went ahead and put a deposit down on it as well.
