Default Skill Levels, narrative style

As a way of always trying to improve the narrative style of role playing, as opposed to roll playing has anyone come up with terms to describe the various skill levels in MegaTraveller/CT.

level 0 = clueless
level 1 = novice
level 2 = skilled
level 3 = experienced
level 4 = professional
level 5 = expert
level 6+ = mastery

This way one can describe the flow of as such:

Dirk has innate MASTERY over computers attempts to reprogram the Vargr mainframe; it is a DIFFICULT task but succeeded with remarkable success. However, he has inadvertently triggered the laser tripwire, and whilst SKILLED at LOCKPICKING there is no way override this FORMIDABLE trap. He dons the outfit of the janitor that he picked up earlier, CLUELESS, he will attempt to poise as the Vargr.

I think most times, those levels have been moved down a notch: level 0 = novice. Without the skill at all is definitely clueless.

Similar:

No skill = clueless
level 0 = trainee/novice/hobbiest
level 1 -2 = competent professional
3 - 4 = expert/elite
5 = renowned/vastly superior
6 = unequalled/superhumanoid

Something like that.
Best,
Will

I was actually thinking of using (for the first few levels) the tradecraft idea:
0=Apprentice
1=Journeyman
2=Senior Journeyman
3=Craftsman
4=Master Craftsman

I go with:
0 = Clueless lay person
1/2 (0.5) = Novice
1 = Semi-skilled/amateur
2 = Skilled/occupational grade
3 = Professional (eg MD)
4 = Master/Consultant (PhD)
5 = Renowned (planetary or local Main)
6+ = Widespread renown

Incidentally, when did Level 1/2 become Level 0?

Dirk, his fingers flying over the keyboard, attempts to reprogram the alien mainframe computer, his hands much more delicate over the oversize and brightly colored buttons than the clumsy paws of the canine Vargr.

Standing, Dirk breaks the beam of a laser.

He dons the outfit of the ill-fitting coveralls of the Vargr janitor that he picked up earlier.

That's how I do narrative, with skills assumed and included within the description, without "breaking it out into keywords, per se."
