Default Life in 2058

I ran across an interesting article at work, and I finally got a chance to read it...

"Big Brains have big ideas on what's coming by 2058"

Predictions were by 15 leaders in medicine, technology and global issues, including 15 Nobel prize winners.

20 PREDICTIONS FOR 2058 (condensed)

1. We'll all know our personal DNA sequencing

2. Life spans will reach triple digits

3. 5 to 10% of children will be born with genetic enhancements

4. Infection vector research leads to cures for most diseases, including AIDS, cancer and schizophrenia

5. Pets recognized as disease vector and become rare, except dogs

6. Hand held neurological scan lie detectors

7. Government approval to have children or face stiff tax penalties

8. Gen Xers work into their 70s

9. Virtual reality includes touch, smell and taste

10. Desktop 'nanofactories' produce objects from computer files

11. Integrated handheld personal planners

12. Free flow of people, information and capital across borders

13. Data combining by many sources leads to full government monitoring

14. Add and download human memory

15. Neural circuits wirelessly rerouted to help blind 'hear' and deaf 'see'

16. Nanotechnology overcomes paralysis

17. Virtual reality artificial retinas

18. Handshakes reserved to family to avoid spreading disease

19. Carniculture produces germ free meat

20. Life created in laboratory

"The singular value of a book like this is it starts the conversation, it starts people thinking. Imagining how we'll be 50 years form today is not as important as what we do today."
-Joel Miller, vice president and publisher of the business and culture division of Thomas Nelson Books
Have faith. Have multiple plans, work on one element of a plan every day. Pass your knowledge on to others.
