Default TDW:1416 Treville District

[Wardn 208.050.2255 Local] Treville District

The ice chinked as Adrien dropped another cube into his glass. A sloppy pour of dark green liquid left a stain on the kitchen counter. There were several stains.

He took a swig from the bottle and then set it down. Glass in hand he returned to the dark hide chair with the deep ruts and cracked edges. It had been his father's favorite chair. Adrien had kept it for frugality, not sentamentality. The Wardn public service paid poorly since the locals were expected to have farms and such on the side. Adrien's dad had been a drunken merchant who tapped a worn out exotic dancer. Dear old dad was buried in the pauper's graveyard on the west side of Treville, maybe close to dear old mom. Maybe not.

Adrien held the glass to his forehead. Piles of bills were on the old bench by the door, folders were on the small coffee table in front of him. If Adrien could have afforded a gun he might have pressed that to his forehead instead. He was the burg manager for the worst section of Wardn; Treville. Several deputies were being charged with reckless endangerment for requesting uncontracted military assitance on a raid. Riots had destroyed one holding station, and explosion had taken out another, along with the rest of the city block. The local military contractors were getting out of hand, the hospital was trashed, and the short spurt of new business seemed to have died with that one political weirdo.

His pay was tied to burg health. No one seemed to care that the planet seemed to have forgotten to fund Treville per standard agreements. No one seemed to want to return Adrien's comms. They just wanted to not get sued for military actions. No one cared that the action saved lives and broke a major crime ring. Criminal flunkies and their slimey lawyers were already suing Treville for funds it didn't have. Naturally Adrien's name was on the suit, whether or not he had approved the actions.

The train system had broken down sixteen years ago and no one funded the repairs. The businesses that depended on the trains to move goods either moved out or folded. Money left, buildings were deserted, and problems moved in. And buildings blew up. One can't forget that.
