I am curious, if you hate Mongoose so bad why do you even come to this section? Why do you read posts about them?

If I had the anger and hate you say you do, I would never even open this section. I would act like it was not there.

So what drives you to still come and post here?

I am very interested to hear your thoughts.

We wouldn't sell them to you - as is our right.

You were banned from our forums (yet again, didn't get the message the first time) because you started picking fights. Again. Just as you did on RPG.net.

If you can behave yourself, you wopuld be welcomed back. If you can't, I am afraid you are not wanted. Our forums are not your personal stomping ground for insulting people.

I am sorry for what ever I have done to earn this warning. I will try and gain a better understanding of the rules regarding appropriate language so I will not violate them again.

To reiterate what Hunter said a month ago:

The COTI mongoose traveller sub-forum is not a place to discuss Mongoose's web boards.

A general board rule here is that attacks on others are not permitted. Attacks includes unsubstantiated derogatory comments.

On a positive note, as well as my luvverly Traveller book I got a replacement copy of Deluxe MRQ this week. Say what you like, Mongoose has excellent customer service. All you have to do is ask (I dropped a line to Matt) and they get on the case.

Much better than moaning about them on public forums when they actually seem to care about the gaming community. (I know big change in direction for me who was so worried when the Stellar Reaches debacle occurred)

I just got my copy of the Traveller core book and knowing about the previous issues, I looked over it with my TL 12 scanner... came out clean

The book quality looks great and so does the content, but I'll expand on that elsewhere...

I went to my local gaming store yesterday to pick up the new core book and they were sold out. I was told that they sold out in two days, and are expecting a new shipment later this week, based on sales in New York City it looks good for the new system.

Default Death of the gaming store

The only non computer orientated game shop in my area has very little RPG materials. Magic is probably the one game that consumes the most space. Collector card games, comics and anime movies take up a big portion of the space. The remaining space is a sampling of various boardgames, tabletop war games and miniatures, dolls (like luke skywalker), and the 1 bookcase with RPG stuff. "I can order whatever you need" the man behind the counter said. One game I asked about he didn't even know existed and the other he said was not available yet. "Sorry Mr, but I'd rather save 6$ in gas money and buy online than order with you." Magic and the WoW collector card game are predominant at the tables of the gaming area where I'm not aware of any RPG other than D&D. Hmm, I don't even recall seeing dice for sale. Back in the day, I remember a wide variety of different sized dice each in a variety of colors in large plastic bins at the counter. Drool would come from the corner of my mouth as if I was in a candies store. "Video Killed the Radio Star" and video games killed the gaming store.

No, CosmicGamer, videogames greu up with RPG's. (1974 vs 1976.) Pretty much different markets, with significant overlap, but survivable co-markets.

MTG, however, took a big chunk, as did the late 80's recession, and the mid 90's correction. D20 did quite a load of damage, too... by making retailers shy away from many "unknown" games, since a lot of D20 stuff was utter crap.

The industry is resilient. Brick and Mortar stores are not, however. I have, in a metropolitan are of 400,000 people, 4 games stores: 2 Bosco's (www.boscos.com), 1 Hobbycraft (of 3, the others don't), and a CCG-only shop (Paper Tigers). Of these, Hobbycraft has but one case of RPG, Paper Tigers none. Hobbycraft has 1/7th of their shelves devoted to wargames and boardgames. Boscos has 1/10th RPG's, 1/10th Boardgames, 1/5th Warhammer, 1/5th Sportscards, 1/10th anime, 3/10ths Comics...

All the dedicated games-only stores died or converted to CCG's, and then died.

CCG's are available at WalMart and KMart. CCG's target ages 8+. CCG's require little shelf space for the value. CCG's require little committed time. CCG's generate repeat customers with little to no staff knowledge.

RPG's are available in Borders and B&N, target generally ages 14+, require significant shelf space for decent coverage, require some staff knowledge, and provide fewer sell points per customer. RPG's also require extensive time commitments.

The market forces are killing the game stores. Not videogames. (MMORPG's could be seen as a major blight, however, as many of my favorite gamers have given up their social lives entirely for MMORPG's.)
