Assassins

Remember that fun live-person game in high school, Assassins? Every play that? (It was a blast!)

Or, have you ever seen the movie, The Game, with Michael Douglas and Sean Penn?

Well, check this out: http://www.spyrpg.com/

Haven't played it, but it looks kinda fun!

(Have to keep it secret from the "adults" in the office, though...)

If you are talkng about the game which SJG released as Killer, yes.

Game ended when 3 kids got suspended.

We played it too. It was hilarious! No suspensions, though. Bummer.

I still have my copy, and I'm NOT going to read it. It could give me ideas.

I believe Killer was like Assassins, but Assassins wasn't published by SJG. I forget who published it.

It was cool getting a note and having to assinate someone. You'd take pretroleum jelly, use it as contact poison, and stick it on someone's car door handle. Then, wait for them to leave school.

Mission accomplished.

I played twice back in High School. It was a blast. Both games lasted the entire trimester.

Like in the movie TAG, the assignation game?

Killer was great. I used to play it with my flatmates, we had a permanent state of alert which had to specifically be "timed-out" if we wanted to feel safe from one another's machinations. It did kind of get out of hand, though - I remember one particularly hairy episode when I spent half an hour standing on a ledge outside one of said flatmate's 3rd-storey bedroom window with a soft-air gun.

Don't try that at home, kids ... ;)

I really miss that game. It was a blast.

Hey, here's a wiki on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assassin_(game)

Evidently it is more popular than I thought. I thought it was just something obscure that we used to do in the 80's. Nice to know they're stilling playing it.

Icosahedron June 1st, 2008 06:39 AM

Hmm, I've not met with this in the UK, but it immediately conjured up an image of Clouseau and Kato. :D

For some reason, that wiki page above didn't open to the right page. Let's try it again.

It's because the last bracket is black not blue, for some reason, and the link doesn't include it. The second link works ok.

God's I remember this game, played in High School and my Freshmen year of college. My favorite hit used a camera with a telephoto lens and a time and date stamp, just love those sniper shots.

I recall a similar game called K.A.O.S. or Killing As an Organized Sport; the rules were for individual and team play. It only took two rounds before campus security shut it down due to the "potential hazard" to other students if things got out of control.

Border Reiver June 6th, 2008 03:00 PM

Things got quite chaotic round Edinburgh playing Killer back in the day. Worse was the fact there could be several rival games using different rules going on at the same time.

City of Anchorage banned public LARPing when a cop shot a deaf kid. Now only allowed in controled spaces not visible from public property. Since 1979, IIRC.
