Looking for a "Masters of Orion" style game for the Mac

Hi all,

First post on this forum! Hello everyone. I hope this is the right forum for this.

Does anyone know of a good "Master of Orion" style space empire building game I can play on an Apple Macbook? I want something I can play solo against the computer with a space theme and 4X gameplay (eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, eXterminate). Hopefully there is something free I can download - or else something I can buy that is not too expensive.

All suggestions appreciated. Thanks

Master of Orion III was released for OS X.

I haven't heard good things about MOO3.

You might look at

Sins of a Solar Empire

As far as I know it was released for both platforms.

Very graphic, smart AI capable, nice expansions.

As for MOO3, the only ones that I know that like it are those who have never played MOO or MOO2.

Isn't Sins of a Solar Empire restricted to just a few star systems though? I'm looking for something really epic with hundreds of systems to explore and conquer.

I do have a PC at home as well as the Macbook if that makes it any easier.

MOO3 was a bug-fest that crashed constantly. It's also PPC-only, so won't run under the latest OS.

I loved MOO 2 on my mac back in the day it was like crack so addictive. I played sins of a solar empire did not like it. Homeworld was close to as fun but more of a flight sim. I would see if there is a way to get a copy of MOO 2 to run on your PC and play it.

Heck, I just played Stellar Conquest solo until I got a copy of the original MOO at a garage sale and fired it up under DOSBox. Then I went back to Stellar Conquest.

100's of systems, hmm, then try Galactic Civilizations series.

Loved the first one, enjoyed the second one, haven't tried the 3rd one yet.
