Scope, Bulky and Very Bulky

Would someone please explain how to use the Scope, Bulky and Very Bulky characteristics from the CSC ? I have what appears to be a first version Core Rules book and a CSC. Some weapons in the CSC have the Scope characteristic (not covered in my Core Rulebook).
Some also have the Bulky or Very Bulky characteristic, e.g. shotgun, RAM GL and TL13 PGMP are each Bulky, while the TL12 PGMP is Very Bulky - this seems different from the weight/overburdened handicap in the Core Rules book.

I don't see "Very Bulky" as a trait in the first edition CSC, so if you see that as a trait, you are probably looking at the second edition CSC.

(Is the front cover mostly black with white text and a yellow "Traveller", or is most of the front cover a picture of an armory? The former is the first edition CSC; the latter is the second edition CSC.)

These traits are explained in the second edition Core Rulebook on page 75.

MgT2 Core, p75:
Quote:

Scope: The weapon has been fitted with vision-enhancing sights, allowing it to put shots on target from far greater ranges. A weapon with the Scope trait ignores the rule that limits all attacks made at a range greater than 100 metres are automatically Extreme Range, so long as the Traveller aims before shooting.

Quote:

Bulky: A Bulky weapon has a powerful recoil or is simply extremely heavy this makes it dif cult to use effectively in combat by someone of a weak physical stature. A Traveller using a Bulky weapon must have STR 9 or higher to use it without penalty. Otherwise, all attack rolls will have a negative DM equal to the difference between their STR DM and +1.

Quote:

Very Bulky: Some weapons are designed only for the strongest combatants. A Traveller using a Very Bulky weapon must have STR 12 or higher to use it without penalty. Otherwise, all attack rolls will have a negative DM equal to the difference between their STR DM and +2.

Quick question for clarification - does the gyrostabilizer work to decrease this penalty ?

AnotherDilbert June 11th, 2019 05:30 PM

Gyrostabiliser removes the Bulky trait, but cannot be added to Destructive weapons, like PGMPs and FGMPs.

Thank you for the clarification regarding the gyrostabiliser.
