Travellermap issue, who do I report it to?
Qevar
Deneb 0731 been playing around in my playground (1st Sea Lord Roderick Wystan Knight Defender of Qevar) and noticed something....my planet literally got smaller between 1105 and 1248 man virus must have scoured the surface off for a few size codes 1105 UWP: A 4 3 2 6 A E – E 1248 UWP: A 2 3 2 7 3 A – E literally is 3200km in size code smaller.... no complaints about the A->3 and E->A as they make sense. dictator to oligarchy is understandable police state to no weapons is understandable. funniest thing maybe that I am a sealord on a hydro20% planet where water is literally more valuable than lives... checking sources Dave Nilsen in: "The Regency Sourcebook" has the world as size 2(1995) Gary L. Thomas, Joe Fugate. in "Data/Library: Deneb." The Travellers' Digest 19 (1990) has the world as size 4 The following I don't have so I can't tell what the code should be for planet size. Rob Caswell. "Domain of Deneb: Sector Data." MegaTraveller Journal 3 (1992) JTAS Online More Adventures on Qevarby Mark Gellis published October 16, 2012 JTAS Online Adventures in the Qevar System by Mark Gellis published May 29, 2012 Mongoose Traveller: Deneb Sector (UWP only) |
My explanation would be that there are several 'worlds' in the system - possibly the result of terraforming projects to convert large moons into habitable colonies (see the original SM for a TL5 world being terraformed by crashing comets into it).
At some point the population of worldlet 2 becomes larger than the population of worldlet 1 and hence the designation of mainworld shifts. |
Deneb has already been through the canon update for T5 - primary source is T5SS spreadsheet. Travellermap is the current information, all others are deprecated.

The rationale behind the change is a Size 2 world wouldn't be able to hold on to a type 3 atmosphere. The T5SS applied a series of consistent changes to world size and atmosphere; in general the size was increased to accomodate the existing atmo code. Atmospheres of 1, A, B, or C required Size 3+; Atmospheres of 2-3, required Size 4+, and Atmospheres of 4-9 required Size 5+.

And to answer the thread title: in general, if you have find an issue with something on TravellerMap, you should report it to Joshua Bell (inexorabletash on these forums). He's the one running that site.

I trusted that T5SS is correct once it was explained to me :). It just weirded me out is all when I looked at the old data and it said the planet was tiny and contradictory. Thank you for showing me the logic involved. |
