Starfinder?

Not that I actually have any intent on buying it, but what are people's thoughts on Starfinder -the upcoming new SciFi Pathfinder rules?

It's supposed to be "Pathfinder in Fantasy Space" according to the local Venture Lt.

But, without a preview/open beta, it's not getting concrete hype.

What little I've read makes it sound like it's tied very closely to its setting, which was a bit more turn-off.

It reads like everything I dislike about science fantasy put into one product.

Seems quite interesting. If it's anything like Pathfinder it's going to look very nice. Shame about the beta testing being restricted though. I've a fairly open mind when it comes to science fantasy so will no doubt give it a go just to see what spin it's put on it.

I'm wondering how much T20 and d20 Star Wars could be converted to it, since Pathfinder is D&D 3.5 compatible.

The guy who did the Traveller renaissance video I posted in the Lone Star did this little video on some of the core races;

It seems kind of interesting, but also my knee jerk reaction is that it also seems a bit cliche. I may check out a copy today.

Here's an interview with the Creative Director;

He mentions it leans towards science fantasy, and is essentially Pathfinder (D&D) thousands of years in the future ... meh, it's one of the reasons I've stuck with Traveller as a hobby.

I'm going to post a blog entry about this. I've got some very un-PC thoughts about the wherefores.

The more I hear about it, the less interested I get.

Didn't care much for D&D 3.X; while the changes made at Paizo for Pathfinder are improvements, it's still way too much crunch and way too little realism for me, coupled to what is shaping up to be a pretty meh set of tropes.

I'd honest rather have seen Elves, Dwarves, Halflings, Androids, Gnomes, and Ratlings as the races.
