Firefly RPG announced.

Margaret Weis announced today that there is a new Firefly RPG in the works.

Uses the CortexPlus Action system as seen in their Leverage RPG.

This is kind of odd and good news alike.

Wasn't there already a Firefly RPG available? Let me see ...

Yeah, right - by Margaret Weiss Productions from 2005 using the standard Cortex system ... Therefore the new version will be a conversion, right? According to the official press release the new game will be based on the "award winning Cortex system." Really? Cortex? Not Cortex Plus???

All the best!

Expect it to be incompatible with the Serenity RPG of those years ago. All current MWP releases are Cortex+ not cortex.

Development of the game is going to require working from a number of starting points. Serenity was a popular product - huge fan base, lots of stuff produced for it. This is not that game, but we hope to honor it while also putting out something that is very much an up to date and authentic RPG based on the TV series. We don't need to work around anything, beat around bushes, whatever - the series has always been the core of the property and it's what got the whole Browncoat fan community started.

Cheers,
Cam

Thanks for the heads up!

Hope they have support material on the lines of the QMX products - especially a good firefly deckplan.

Perhaps the most Traveller-ish thing that has ever been on the TV or in the theaters (Serenity was the movie title).

Since my television viewing is pretty much the local news, along with the occasional baseball game or maybe football game, and I do not have cable (never could justify the cost to myself), that explains why I know nothing about it.

Ah, I see. Thank you. Didn't know that.

Yeah, am really looking forward to seeing this shiny new rpg-toy. :)

timerover, I suggest you watch Serenity by renting it at Redbox (dirt cheap), and then, if you like what you saw (I would be surprised if you didn't), then buy the series on dvd. I was out of the country when Firefly aired, but saw Serenity at the onbase theater for free, and that was enough to make me go to the NEX and pick up the series.
