FIRST DRAFT
Your Name in Zhodani

*UPDATE: Latest changes are marked with '*'

I need some testers to try out these draft rules. (Warning: it seems to work better with names than with login handles).

This is a set of name-mangling rules that maps names (or words) into Zhodani-sounding counterparts. As always, use with caution. Your results will help me refine the model.

Sincerely,

Riestants ("Call me Stan") Ejdakieqr

Pretty neat. Wendell Martin -> Vradzdal Zedlbroqr which looks pretty authentic.

Peter White
becomes..
Tlbradl Vrhobr?

COOL!

Didn't dare try my middle name.

--Edit--
okay now I did... zhdershtensl?

Tlbradl Zhdershensl Vrhobr?

Sounds like a Aslan horking up a bad hairball.

robject July 9th, 2003 04:13 PM

Peter White could be:

Peter Whit
-> Patar Whot
-> Tlabram Vrobr

Hm, that final t should be something else. How
about, in the final consonants table:

t -> j

That would make you "Tlabram Vroj". Better?

And Wendell Martin could be:

Wendel Martin
-> Wandal Merton
-> Vrayal Zedlbroqr

Although I'd pare down that "dlbr" group some...
it could be 'Zedloqr' or 'Zebroqr'.
Perhaps 'rt' ought to map to something in the
basic consonants table. How about

rt -> cht

That would make you "Vrayal Zechtoqr".

I wish my name was Zedlem Zoklam.

Unfortunately, it's Tledlma Odpadledlobrq.

PVernon July 9th, 2003 05:21 PM

So I whould be:
0) Peter Vernon
1) (no effect)
2) (no effect)
3) Patar Varnien
4) Tlabram Padldieqr
5) (no effect)

Right?

ozbonius_2000 July 9th, 2003 05:34 PM

Mine came out to be Adlomf Iezstod. How do I pronounce it??

[Add - Lom, Eye - Stod]

robject July 9th, 2003 05:43 PM

Vernon
Padldieqr, yep.

If I were you, I'd drop that second d.
Padlieqr sounds better.

Or, perhaps I need to map 'rn' to something.
How about rn -> v.

Pavieqr. Ahh, nice.

Pierce Inverarity * let's dump that final y.
Pierc Inverarit
Perc Onvarerot
Tledlm Odpadledloj

Let's dump the 'm' from Tledlm, and the
'p' from Odpadledloj.

Tledl Odadledloj. A little better. Still a mouthful of syllables. Consider it a diplomatic challenge.

Sorry, just couldn't resist

Anyway, more data for the test, Daniel James Burns enters the alien artifact and emerges...

"Hi there, I'm Zdedel Nezar Stodldr, no need to introduce yourself, I've already scanned your mind." :cool:

Pronunciation (imo): Zhed-el Ne-zar Stole-dur
