[T5 ATU] The Permatic Imperium: Adventuring in the Far Stars of the Distant Future.

It is the dawn of the Permatic Imperium's bicentennial and His Imperial and Royal Majesty Vladimir II has guided the people of the Far Stars back into the light of interstellar civilization after the long dark of the Interregnum that followed the death of the last Emperor of the Sixth Imperium.

Seated on the Sapphire Throne, a relic of the Second Imperium that he personally brought out of an Old Empires Dump on the last orders of Rufus the Immortal Emperor of the Fifth Empire during the last days of the Great War, he awaits the return of his sovereign. Meanwhile he restores the Riftborne Domains to the glories they knew in their youth as the Imperial Frontier.

This is a young Imperium and its trials many, resources varied, enemies within and without, danger and opportunity abound for those seeking adventure and fortunes, for those willing to risk for reward, in other words: Travellers Needed.

And so it begins...

As Ser Barnsley is dusting the mantle the sound of the doorbell is heard. Barnsley heads to the door, checks the securi-cam and is only mildly surprised (being that he's been down this road before and he keeps up on the Court gossip, the Servants' Network is pretty good at passing the latest info around) to see an Imperial Courier at the door. After he assures himself that the visitor is genuine, he pages Master Martel to the Foyer where Lord Vilecashar is patiently waiting, a white envelope with purple edging in his hand...
See, I told I would get us going soon. :D Later than intended, but still we are now rolling. Speaking of rolling, from here on in, we are going to be using the CotI Die Roller.

Here is an example of a standard roll. [roll0]

EDIT: As you can see, I need a bit of practice in using the Die Roller. Let us try that again. So, standard 2d6 roll: [rollv]2d6[/rollv].

Okay, I need to go over to the thread and see if someone can tell me what I am doing wrong here.

Back to our delayed game...Quit putting OOC in the IC thread :P

Come down stairs from my study:

"Yes, Barnsley, what is it? Ahh, an Imperial courier. Thank you, Barnsley. I will take it from here."

Approach the courier, hand extended in greeting:

"I am FC Martel. How can I be of service to the Emperor today?"

"You are welcome, sir." Barnsley says as he bows and vacates the Foyer to rear of the Estate House while you proceed to greet your guest.

As you are coming forward the Imperial Courier gives the traditional boot heel click and quick bow, he then speaks.

"Lord Valdemar Martel of the Ancient and Honorable House of Martel in the Name, Voice, and Hand of His Imperial and Royal Majesty, The Emperor of the Permatic Imperium, Vladimir the Second of His Name, I am Commanded to see this Invitation is hand delivered to you and bring to His Majesty your reply."

After he states the Formalities he takes your hand in firm grip, shakes and smiles.

"Good to meet you Force Commander. Lord Stephen Vilecashar, Imperial Courier. Not as glamourous as your job, but it needs to get done. I have heard about your deeds, it is nice to meet you in person. I shall be all the rage when I get back to Court, there hasn't been a Martel in the Throne Room since your esteemed mother was elevated to Baroness Pecias.

Well, back to business."

He straightens back up into the formal style you are both so used from Imperial Service and hands you a bright white parchment envelope with the Imperial purple edging. The envelope is sealed with a Royal blue, bio-reactive wax with the Seal of the Imperium impressed in it and an Imperial purple ribbon underneath, such seals are familiar to you as the Joint Forces use such authentication methods for classified materials. The last time you saw one of these was when you got the big gong which serves you well as you know to press your left thumb upon the Seal to open. Might be time to check he handed you the correct Invitation or has the counter-agent handy since you have seen the results when an unauthorized person tries and fails to break a Seal.

"To answer your question, you can compose a reply to His Majesty's Invitation and give it to me to convey."

Having handed you the envelope Lord Vilecashar assumes a pose of relaxed waiting and his eyes take a tour of the Foyer.

Return the formal heal click and bow.

"Thank you. It will only be a few moments. If you would like to take a seat. As to my personal deeds, it was my pleasure to serve the Emperor. Although a couple of those events were a tad too close for comfort." Usher him into the formal parlor. Mother is a stickler for protocol.

Call Barnsley on the house intercomm: "Barnsley, I must compose a reply to his RH&IM. Please bring Lord Vilecashar some refreshment."

Go to my study, and on House Martel Stationary compose my reply. "It is my Honor and Privilege to attend the ceremony and serve your August Presence. I shall arrive a few days in advance to coordinate my portion of the service. Including Baron and Baroness Martel, there will be ten in our party."

Seal it with House Martel green wax and my personal chop.

Returning to the parlor, hand the sealed reply to Lord Vilecashar. "Perhaps we can have a drink or two before the ceremony. I will be glad to regale you with a few stories if you would do the same?"

Lord Vilecashar makes the appropriate small talk as you usher him to the Formal Parlor and takes a seat near a window. Again he seems to survey the surroundings as he does so.

When you page Barnsley he will request the Lord's preference, acknowledge the order and give his usual prompt service.

"A Rhylanor Sunrise, if you please." Lord Vilecashar states in response to Ser Barnsley's request.

"Quiet a nice place the Martel Estate, it shall be a pleasure to await your reply in such surroundings."

***

When you return to the Parlor you find that Lord Vilecashar is holding a mostly finished drink and gazing out the window. He puts the drink down, gets up and meets you as you enter the room.

"I have Received your Reply to His Majesty and will covey it to Him as it was given to me." he speaks in the formal tone as he receives your Reply with another click and bow. He then pockets the Reply in his right pocket and drops back into casual mode.

"Indeed, I would like to hear a few tales over drinks, though in my job I dare say the tales are a tad boring compared to your experiences. We Couriers hardly ever have to deal with people shooting at us. Of course, when they do, well that is when we call people like you to deal with the problem.

I can see to the arrangements when I get done with all this running around and return to Melnauka. I know a couple of places with good food as well as drinks, local places not on the maps as it were. I'm sure you know the type being a fellow Traveller."

With that he returns to formal mode and leaves the Martel Estate as Ser Barnsley opens the door for him.

"Well, sir, I dare say I best get packing your kit. Do you have any preference for attire while we will be on Capital?" Barnsley asks as he returns from seeing Lord Vilecashar out.

"My formal uniforms for court attendance, I should think. Duty uniforms for any visits to Blackwell or any of the military bases...hmmm. Perhaps a selection of my suits with appropriate shirts, shoes, and such."

After couple moments consideration "Barnsley, I think it's time we find me my own gentleman's gentleman, don't you? After all, you will be swamped caring for Mummah, Puppah, mummahs corgis, myself, my escort, my younger siblings, all the baggage and such. Also, it is time I set up my own household even if it is just in one of the family townhouses. We can't have you splitting time between managing the main house here and my dwelling, can we?"

after a pause

"Perhaps you know someone appropriate?"

after a pause

"Perhaps you know someone appropriate?"

Barnsley grins, "Ah, the excitement of a new Noble.

Really, Lord Valdemar, you still have the impatience of youth. It isn't magic getting you what you want, sir. The requirements have made me use sources that are not my standard for such matters. However, I didn't get to run this Estate for your dear family by not being able to handle such things. I had a rather nice chat about that very subject with Lord Stephen while you were composing your reply. He put me on to some leads which I am pursuing as we speak.

Still, bear in mind one should not rush when setting up their first Holding, ask your Mother and Father about the mistakes they made when their Titles were new. Your parents tried to run this Holding as military establishment when they first got here. Your Father kept complaining about 'those damned Republics' for the first couple of years.

You are a member of Great and Ancient House, do it right and do the family proud. And trust an old man to know how to handle it."

He smiles, bows and then heads up to begin your packing and checking the feeds for travel arrangements.
And we dissolve to Slip 42 at the Pecias Downs starport, a concrete slab some 420 meters from the Beacon. There we see Lord Vilecashar's limo which executes a rather slick drifting 180 so it backs up as it boards a sleek airframe yacht of what appears to the HMS Herald class.

The Garage closes and the vessel begins to lift off it gear and they retract as the HMS Herald of Permatic 4 rotates toward the north. It rises in to the air and shoots into orbit. It leaves orbit on an Expedited Exit and races out to the Jump Limit and then the grid glows in that lovely and radiant blue, a Flash and its gone.
