Classic Traveller Play by Post Campaign: The Wild Hanstone

THe Wild Hanstone is a classic Traveller play by post campaign looking for 6 players, generated using ct books or supplent 4 or alien modules, and it is to be in a space based, exploratory capacity, so spacers, security, belters, scouts, scientists, would all do well... as would escaped prisoners, pirates, mercenaries, opportunists, etc.

submit a character on this thread, no term or species limits. number of players determines exploratory budget, possible ship assignment.

Adventure One: Excursion to Mozart begins as soon as the players assemble!

A small ship drifts down to the landing pad of Lilith's backwater port and extends it's landing pylons... then abruptly rises 40 meters just before it touches down, rocks wildly, and then falls in a spin nearly 50 meters to the ground landing with a thud and snap as the contra-grav whines like a thousand Banshees.

The fuel tech next to you in the IISS uniform from the nearby Scout base raises an eyebrow and comments... "Hunh! Never thought I'd see a working Saskii class Type S. Then again, I'm not sure it IS working. They went out of service over 70 years ago. Even the Detached Duty service doesn't use them anymore. I wonder who's flying that piece of junk?"

The fuel tech stares at the slightly twisted (was it that way before or after the "landing" ?), patched over patches, scored, corroded, and generally beyond salvage hull as it creaks, pops, and groans with the powerplant winding down. The left rear landing pylon suddenly gives out a whoosh of escaping air-pressure from the hydraulics and settles a meter lower putting the ship on a noticeable list.

"That wreck won't need fuel. It needs a tug to haul it to the breakers." and the fuel tech wanders off to the next landing pad.

As you continue watching, there's really not much else for a Traveller to do on Lilith, the ventral hatch opens and the ramp extends... stops... a low muttering carries through the silence from the hatch followed by two hard rings of metal on metal, the ramp extends a little further but is still over a meter from the ground when it stops with a horrible grinding noise. You can see a pair of legs walking down the ramp, a bit unsteadily, the person sits on the end of the ramp, and more falls than jumps to the ground and lies there... the stairs retract smoothly and quietly and the hatch closes with a hushed whisper of seals activating.

...to be continued.

By your leave von Saarthuran I'm in, more to follow later. I generated a quick character using the automated web deal at Signal GK: http://www.signalgk.com/cgi-bin/ctcg.pl

You might have guessed it's a DD Scout character, with a Type S. The above was just a bit of intro off the cuff imagination running wild. That's quite the... unexplored subsector there. Looks like it might be fun :)

A DD Scout?!

far-trader August 16th, 2012 04:08 AM

DD, short for Detached Duty :) What were you imagining? :) You've piqued my curiosity :)

SanDragon August 16th, 2012 05:10 AM

A Destroyer Droyne!

Yes, I was dropped on my head as a child. :p

far-trader August 16th, 2012 05:22 AM

Hmm, I hadn't actually picked race yet, I wonder if the Baron would let me take a Destroyer Droyne :D

...maybe if the coyns were caste just so :)

I like it :) Maybe I will make it a Droyne (non-Destroyer caste ;) ). Sorta fits the characteristics, could fit the background gestalt I flashed on creating it, will have to sleep on it :)

SanDragon August 16th, 2012 05:29 AM

Dangit. I was puttering around with a Droyne using my Alien Modules reprint...

But I also used the link you put up to knock out a Navy character, a scout, and a merchant.

far-trader August 16th, 2012 05:33 AM

OK, you go with the Droyne :) You were first, and one should be enough ;) (unless we go with a full six... )

I hadn't figured on a special race anyway, got enough other ideas whizzing around in my head as it is ;)

SanDragon August 16th, 2012 06:07 AM

Droyne Sports can go it alone.

I'm also going to make a Solomani human who doesn't like the Party. So he left Solomani space.

Did I just give away too much?

Bah! Fuggeddabout the Solomani character!
