I had noticed that thread & think it's a great concept, I'd be happy to do something for you. I will let you know when I start it - I may have the odd question for you then.
A good excuse to watch Kingdom of Heaven as well as I haven't got round to seeing it yet.

I have a campaign which I have started that involves a CT interpretation of the Hospitallers, as itinerant warrior/medic monks.

I would be interested if you could do something on this for the public consumption. I have put down some of my developments in this thread: http://www.travellerrpg.com/CotI/Dis...ad.php?t=16146

The best image I could find of the old, pre-Malta, habit is at:
    http://kildare.ie/greyabbey/images/Hospitallers.jpg

One of the most concise sites I found was
    http://www.middle-ages.org.uk/knights-hospitaller.htm

They sport black combat armor with a white pectoral cross, swords or blades, laser carbines. I am imagining a brother, crouched low on one knee, in a stateroom door, preparing to engage the piratical exploiters of an explosive hull breach.

My inspiration is, despite the short study on the military orders, is Thewlis´ Hospitaller character in Kingdom of Heaven. To Balian (Orlando Bloom), "I put no stock in religion. By the word religion I have seen the lunacy of fanatics of every denomination be called the will of God. Holiness is in right action, and courage on behalf of those who cannot defend themselves, and goodness."

This is how the Hospitaller welcomes the new crusader to Jerusalem. He bids it farewell:
Thewlis:"My Order goes with the army"
    Bloom:"You march to certain death!"
Thewlis:"All death is certain. [The delivery of this line encapsulates it all for me!] I'll tell your father what I've seen you become."

I'll be happy to answer any questions and wait until the cows come home.
