So yeah, I figured I might post a bit of a background about myself since I seem to be diving in with both feet at the deep end of the Traveller pool here. So here goes.... .

I am currently 46 (born in 1968.. damn that makes me sound old!) and have two kids (13yr old son and 8yr old daughter). I have been married for almost 22 years (which makes me sound even older!). I am an avid gamer and have been since the early 80s. I started in 7th grade (1981) with D&D with some friends. By the time I had graduated HS in '86 we had played D&D, Traveller, Top Secret, Champions, and probably a few others that I can't recall. I had also started getting into video games on the computer like Ultima.

In college (Rochester Institute of Technology) I got heavily involved in the "Rochester Wargaming Association and Guild" (RWAG) which was the gaming club. We held an annual gaming convention which I was the "Director of Logistic" for 2 years while I was there (I think 87 and 88).

During this time I added Twilight 2000 and Car Wars to the list of favorite games and got really into both of them, especially Car Wars. I still played D&D and Traveller as well, though computer-based games were starting to eat away at my time playing tabletop games.

After college I didn't have people to play with, so I went with computer video games (as opposed to console games which at this time the last console I had was an Atari 2600). I got heavily into all the RPG games and still am. Games like Fallout (all versions), and the "Infinity Engine" games (Icewind Dale series, Baldur's Gate series) became my passion. I even was a play-tester for the first graphical MMO (that I know of), Meridian 59.

As FPS games made their way into the world I got involved playing those as well. I still have the DOOM and DOOM II shareware 3.5" floppy disks (not sure if they work though). I recall playing Quake on the network at work with my buddies after hours. I have even played competitively with friends in ladders and leagues for Call of Duty and Unreal Tournament. But as we all aged we didn't have the time for those and I gravitated back to RPG (single player) games.

About 2-3 years ago I started getting back into tabeltop games via my son. He had an interest in Magic: The Gathering so I got him some cards and had to learn to play so I could teach him. Then it was Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh. Around the same time I had found a local gaming store that I found myself going to more and more. I started playing board games with people there and eventually started playing the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game with a regular group.

This led to me getting back into D&D which led to wanting to play Car Wars and Traveller again (my two other favorites). When I realized that nobody was running a Traveller game I decided to run one myself, but first I had to get back in the loop, so I hit the Interwebs for information. Not surprisingly, it led me here.

The amount of experience and knowledge of the game here between all the members is mind-boggling, overwhelming even. But the true beauty of this place is that everyone is so darn friendly. I come in, ask noob questions, and get thoughtful, well reasoned, and rational answers. So I am planting roots here and trying to become a contributing member of the community, all while spreading the word of Traveller to new players.

I too started playing games in grade school, but as that was before the age of computers that could be afforded by a middle class person, it was pen and paper. yes I'm 60 years old, I've been sporting the warwizard tag since 1975 or so. I discovered Traveller in 1977 or so just after I also discovered D+D, so we have a lot in common game wize, and welcome back to the game.

Yeah, we can hang out! That Fallout and Infinty D&D games is pure dee awesome. Oh, and as a dude 1year and 29 days from being able to state his age as "half a damned century" we are old. See, the age is hitting already forgot that wasted youth already.
