Over the Moon, Back in the Moot!

I am just over the moon at having a friend (who wishes to remain anonymous) sponsor me for Moot membership! Among other things, that means I have this Blog back (can write new entries again) and have a decent sized PM mailbox again so I don't have to manage it every couple days (download and delete) to make room for incoming PMs!

Aside from the member benefits, I urge all CotI regulars to join the Moot at whatever Rank you can afford, just to support this site for all the benefits and enjoyment we derive from it. Marc Miller owns and underwrites Citizens of the Imperium, but our Moot membership dues at least help cover some of the cost.

I had been planning to save up for this, but finances aren't great right now - health is still bad (see last blog post from 2015; it got worse after that) so I'm now on SS Disability, which is like getting your Social Security early due to illness or injury preventing you from working, but actually less than that, because you miss some of your prime earning years. Yeah, Peer-of-the-Realm is pretty cheap ($10), but that's five Lean Cuisines when they're on sale!

Anyway, Thank You, Friend! This is all the more awesome for being totally unexpected!

BTW, what you said about your SSI doesn't sound right to me. You might ought to talk it over with an attorney who is experienced in disability law. Mandatory disclaimer: This is not legal advice, I am not your attorney, and you are not my client.

No guarantees. They review it every year; just administratively, not a full hearing. Since I still have the condition for which it was originally awarded, plus my health seems to get worse with new serious conditions every year, I think my most likely possibilities for a loss of SSD are: 1) some bizarre change in the law; 2) reaching age 65 and getting switched over to regular Social Security; or 3) dying (unfortunately most likely of those three possibilities; I don't really expect to reach age 65 unless we jump a couple of TLs in Medicine within the next 8 years). It is in the hands of the Lord. He provides my daily bread, a roof over my head, and air to breathe; all the rest is gravy!

And for how long will you receive disability? I just found out my SSI will only be for 3 years, even though I have ESRD.

It is very good to see you back on, Chuck. Take care and hang in there. I know all too well about SS Disability.
