Okay, I've held off posting this for a long time, but here it goes.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay way back in the mid 90s, when I was either on AOL or one of the indy ISP providers back in the good old 14.4kbps days, I came across a site out of Sweden called "Deviant ART". It was mostly Swedish or Nordic "sci fi" artists rendering Japanese anime knock offs. Absolutely nothing original in spite of what the copy said.

In typical Nordic fashion the hosts got all haughty and banned my ISP. Big deal. Fast forward nearly 30 years (25??? I can't remember), and DeviantART is a massive website. Is it the same website? I'll say it is just for the sake of a good story ... who the hell knows.

Only now it's My Little Pony art with a "guy theme" (bronies), anime girls kissing bisexual anime males (or so I'm guessing ... hermaphroditic kinds of dudes), and girl foxes kissing or flirting with other foxes of both sexes.

RARELY do I see still photography or some science fiction or regular art piece on the homepage anymore. It's all "bronies" and anime girls.

How does anyone stand that stuff? Or, better yet, how is it that that stuff now blankets and swarms Deviant ART? Maybe I'm seeing that website through angry-Rose-colored glasses, wanting to see what I want to see for the sake of getting angry for the sake of getting angry, but it sure does seem like bronies and anime girls are the dominant topics.

And I just don't get it. From what I recall the whole "My Little Pony" is a toy for little girls. How the hell do adult hetero sexual, allegedly well-adjusted, males get fascinated with some thing not only meant for kids, but little girl kids.

How does that work?

And anime chicks? I used to watch anime for all the scifi stuff, and girls in armor shooting big guns was cool. But now it's all touchy-feely dating or romance with the sexually ambiguous hermaphroditic male.

I mean ... huh? Where's the cool race car driver or fighter pilot with the wild hair out to save mankind from another 500 meter tall monster controlled by aliens? Where's that stuff? Now that's entertainment!

I don't know. I guess I'm an old fuddy duddy. I grew up watching cool anime with aliens, space ships, massive dogfights or wars on Terra or abroad in outer space. But something's happened over the last couple of decades. What, I don't know. I haven't touched any new anime since the mid 90s, and even then, as an adult, my interest in off shore animation was on the wane.

But now it's hurting my eyes.

"Mister ghost, if you don't like it, then don't look at it!"

The problem is that it's part of DeviantART's homepage thingy, and there's no "turn off Bronies and anime chicks" filter tab on the site. Oh my kingdom for such a filter.

Well, there are other websites with cool sci-fi and regular art. I'm just sorry DeviantART seems to be the bronie-anime-chick hangout.

Whatever. Rant mode off.

Thanks for the links San Dragon. I was about to say that as of five minutes ago today's deviants weren't as bad, but the more I scrolled the more I saw nothing but bronies, anime girls, and girl-foxes. Other than the links you provided, and a few favs of my own, I think I'm done with that site. It's a bronie/anime-girl ghetto now. This hispanic girls don't post those annoying glittery mosaics of their favorite pop stars anymore. That's how bad it's gotten.

Also, try searching for Traveller md you should find tons of stuff, in fact if I recall correctly the great Rob Caswell is on there and his stuff is straight up Traveller and that usually will lead you to yet more science fiction type stuff. Asto the Bronies thing. Yeah, for once I am totes with you, don't get that either.
