Cepheus Engine Comments
|
#196
December 23rd, 2019 02:54 AM |
Note to self: Do not comment on any Cepheus Engine product by any company. The only result is being landed on, even when the product is a bit strange. I definitely am odd man out when it comes to Cepheus Engine publishers. I have considered posting some of my rule changes online, but aside from the probability of having them used by someone else before I get my rules finished, I really do not have the time or energy to deal with all of the probable comments, except by saying this is how I vi

Christmas Melancholy
|
#195
December 19th, 2019 02:00 AM |
Christmas is a time of mixed feelings for me. Celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior is something that I look forward too, and I greatly enjoy giving presents, more than receiving them. However, this time of year does bring back memories of what has gone before. Our first son was born on December 16th, three months premature, and never made it home, living for 5 months in a Newborn Intensive Care Unit. He died on May 10th. That tends to temper some on the celebration, and there are t

Traveller Vs. OD&D
|
#194
December 17th, 2019 12:29 PM |
I used Traveller verses OD&D as that is my choice as to what to work on presently. OD&D is the DriveThru term for older editions of Dungeons and Dragons, from the Little Tan Books to it looks like Advanced D&D. Right now, I am working on a mix of Blue Book D&D, Basic D&D, a bit of the Little Tan Books, along with my own home-brew additions. I downloaded several modules and a couple of rule set from DriveThru yesterday, some of which I also have as hard copy. I wanted the digital copies to ma

Been A While

I guess I have greatly gotten behind with Daily Thoughts, as it has been two weeks since my last posting. I am not sure if I can get caught up, but I do need to post more than every two weeks.
With respect to my health, I keep alternating good days and bad days, but even that is not a given. I was at a Christmas get-together for the Sunday School class, and was doing okay, then suddenly, someone put a knife into the bottom of my left foot. That pretty much ended the evening for me, as I w

Grey Friday
|
#192
November 30th, 2019 01:38 PM |
No, the Grey does not refer to a less intensive Black Friday, but to the clouds and fog that have settled in for the duration. I have only ventured out once on a Black Friday, and that was quite a few years ago to get an extremely good deal on a heavy duty mixer set for my wife, which has been well used over the years. Needless to say, the store was not that crowded.
Right now, a lot of people would love to see some sun. It is amazing how much your body is tuned to the sun. I discovere

Vinland and Iron Dragon

November 22nd, 2019 03:53 AM |
I found a book on New Zealand from 1908 which looks a lot about how I picture the planet Vinland in the Out Rim Sector. The population is a bit higher, but if gives a good idea of how things might be if written by a studious visitng author. As I am trying to work up a longer planet description for it, this will be a great help. I may borrow some of the names of plants and trees for Vinland from the New Zealand book. I will have to see. The Tech Level is about right as well, roughly Tech Le

Moot Topic No-No

Well, my idea for a Moot discussion of the attempted genocide by Turkey of the Armenians appears to have been shot down, so I will try here and see what happens. There is a fair amount of material on Project Gutenberg regarding the evidence for it, so of it pretty graphic, and from a wide range of witnesses including Germans, of all people. The Kurds appear to have joined the Turks without a whole lot of encouragement, along with the Syrian Arabs and the Iraqis. One German war correspondent

Marc Needs An Editor
|
#189
November 11th, 2019 03:04 AM |
The title to the thread sums it up, although this might lead to some backlash from the management. Marc badly needs an editor to keep him from making massive mistakes, such as the following.
Quote:
The ship’s Power System consumes fuel in an extremely rapid (and inefficient) process, channelling the required energy to the Jump Drive
|
That is from T5.10, Book 2, page 118, bottom. The ship is fusing, quite inefficiently, large quantities of Liquid Hydrogen to supply power to the Jump Drive. Bas

A Variety

Well, I was not doing well enough this morning to visit my son, and the legs are still bothering me, but room service needed to clean the room. So I am out in the lobby on a hotel computer typing this.
We did have a good stop in Shipshewana for food and shopping. We bought Christmas/Birthday presents for three people. That is what happens when birthdays and Christmas are on top of each other. The presents can be for either, but it does mean that all of the presents are bunched in a month

Off To Michigan
|
#187
October 30th, 2019 03:07 PM |
This weekend I will be in Michigan, so I might not be around a lot. First stop though is in Shipshewana, Indiana for some shopping in the Amish stores and also to visit, probably more than once, the Blue Gate Restaurant. Such terrific food there.
Still putting together the booklets, and keep finding more stuff to add. I think that simplest thing is simply more booklets. I can see why Dover is selling their clip art books with 32 pages. That makes it a smaller package, and also keeps fro
