I am working on a trade planet guide for El Paso, based on the planets that are within two Jump-3 jumps of it, in the Sword, Odin, and Tuatha sub-sectors. El Paso is in the Sword sub-sector, located at 0810, so the lower right-hand corner of a standard sub-sector map. This is proving harder than I anticipated, as I have to work up a longer background for El Paso, to include what trade goods are readily available, and also a background for each trading planet. That covers a wide range of planet populations, characteristics, and Tech Levels. I also have to decided, upon looking further at each planet's Universal World Profile, if any of them need more tweaking to get the result that I want. Then there is the question of what they might have to trade. In the case of El Paso, the planet will accept specie (gold and silver), Bank of Baldur or Bank of Odin currency (at a discount), and Bank of New Texas dollar currency (with less a discount than either Baldur or Odin).
Free Traders can also to barter with the trading planets, trying to get a cargo for another planet or to take back to El Paso for trading there. Most Free Traders are going to be either Jump-2 or Jump-3, due to the sparser stellar population, or use Hyperdrive-1 or Hyperdrive-2, with the longer travel times being balanced by more cargo and passenger space. I am going with Jump drive ships to get somewhere faster, while the Hyperdrive ships give you longer range with longer travel times. Hyperdrive-1 covers a parsec a month, while Hyperdrive-2 covers a parsec a week. If you want to travel to a planet more than 4 parsecs away, it will take you longer to get there via Hyperdrive, but it will get there.
I still need to work up some sample Hyperdrive merchant ships, and rework the Classic and Cepheus Engine trade goods table, with the result useable by both rule sets. The trade system will also work with just Jump-ships for those who want to use it with Classic, or whatever rule set appeals to them.
Yes, this probably will be a booklet for purchase once I get it worked out.
