We had some bright spots amid all of the gloom and doom from the media today. My wife's college roommate had been a missionary in Venezuela, but got out retired before things totally tanked there, and is not living in Florida. She called last week to let us know that a surprise was in the mail to us. The package arrived today, and I waited until my wife got home from the tax office to open it. Inside was a 12-pack of toilet paper with a Spanish label, and a note saying that these "special papers" could be used for a variety of things. My wife's roommate as a bit of a sense of humor, and we both got a big smile from her surprise. We now have sufficient toilet paper for a couple of months at the rate we use it.
Then today, a lady come into the tax office to get her taxes done who had been going to another company, but they were now closed. While she was filling out the paperwork to do a drop-off, my wfie assured her that they were disinfecting everything whenever someone came in. Well, it turns out that the lady works for the local company producing Clorox wipes, and she went out to her car and brought the office a container full of them. She instantly became a Very Important Person to the staff, especially when she said she would bring more wipes in when she picked up the return. Of course, she also got a discount on the return. My wife wants to make sure that she comes back.
Lastly, both of the U.S. Navy hospital ships are on duty in Los Angeles and New York. That is about 2 weeks faster than I thought that they could make it. My hat is off to the men and women who got those ships ready so fast, and who are also serving on them.
