In Moot Member Blogs Marc Needs An Editor Entry Tools Rate This Entry

The title to the thread sums it up, although this might lead to some backlash from the management. Marc badly needs an editor to keep him from making massive mistakes, such as the following.

Quote:
The ship’s Power System consumes fuel in an extremely rapid (and inefficient) process, channelling the required energy to the Jump Drive
That is from T5.10, Book 2, page 118, bottom. The ship is fusing, quite inefficiently, large quantities of Liquid Hydrogen to supply power to the Jump Drive. Basic question, where does all of the extremely hot Hydrogen Gas now go? Not back in the fuel tanks, that is for very cold Liquid Hydrogen. Dump it outboard? Then you have one spectacular fusion torch drive blasting away, giving you one terrific velocity vector when you exit Jump Space. Lots of Liquid Hydrogen for a Hydrogen Jump Bubble I can sort of tolerate, but this, no. It just does not compute. The question is, does Marc even see this? My gut feeling is that he does not, which is why he needs an editor. The problem is, Marc is the company, so if he does not want an editor, there is no one to override him. My guess is that Don McKinney might have been able to convince him that he needs an editor, but Don is no longer with us.

T5.10 should not be close to 900 pages. How do you introduce someone to a game that has that many pages of rules? The bottom line is that you cannot. You first have to introduce him or her to one of the earlier versions, either Classic, or Starter, or The Traveller Book, which does have the benefit of being a single volume. That should not be overlooked. Someone committed to Traveller will look at T5.10, and maybe use parts of it. I do not have the time to read all of that, nor do I have the inclination. I also need to figure out where to store the Big Black Books once they arrive. I have too many books as it is. I suspect that they will go into a plastic bin in the basement, not to see the light of day much, if at all. A good game done in by overkill.
