There are quite a few comments on the forum which assume that criminal activity on the part of players with their characters is perfectly okay. This has also been sanctioned in some of the Traveller materials. Personally, I find this both offensive and disturbing.

How many of the players would instantly offer a bribe to a police officer it stopped for speeding, or being drunk while driving, with the automatic assumption that the police officer would instantly accept the bribe? How many would whip up their billfold and had a hundred Dollar bill to a TSA agent to allow them to bring contraband on an aircraft?

How many would be really upset if told on entering a country that the fancy and expensive camera that they are carrying is no longer theirs, but the property of the customs official allowing them to enter? Or being told that if they want to get their property into a country, that they had better cough up $10,000 in cash?

Or perhaps the assumption that the player characters can wreak all of the havoc they want on the planet, and then run back to the safety of the Star Port authority and the extraterritorial protection from the planet's government? After all, if the planet cannot deal with a bunch of guys in combat armor, that is the planet's problem, not the Star Port.

I suspect that a large number of members of the Forum would not at all be happy in anything that I would run, as I am not one to tolerate that type of behavior. If you want to play the part of a "Chaotic Evil" character, to borrow D&D terminology, then you had better be willing to take the consequences, which will not be nice.

I don't know, I'm not a big one for casual criminal conduct too, ut then you do have to give the players agency and if htey want to do crime, well the best you do is let them and roll some dice to see what happens. Player agency is important to gaming so sometimes you have to let them do what they want. Sometimes that is to commit crimes they can't in real life, living vicariously through their PC. But I do feel ya, said the guy writing a noblebright empire.
