I had a good time with my daughter, her husband, and her father-in-law playing games today. To start off, I got a text message from my daughter not to buy any donuts, which I had not planned to do as none of us really need them. When they arrived, aside from about 10 possible games to play, they had a great big box of very good donuts and pastries. We sort of pigged out on them instead of the healthy snacks that my wife has prepared, although I did have some of the apples that she sliced up and part of a container of grape tomatoes. Then they bought the pizza for everyone as well. I had figured that we were paying for it, but I lost that discussion.

The first game we played was Roll Through the Ages, which was quiet interesting, even though I was clobbered in both of the games that we played. I am just terrible when it comes to rolling dice of any kind. I do think that if I host a game, I may make a house rule of you cannot win by tribute. That can be accumulated very quickly if you play the game a certain way. Tribute can count towards your victory points, but maxing out on tribute will not win the game.

After two games of Roll Through the Ages, we took a short break and then decided to play Pirates Cove. That one was a lot of fun, and if I had thought a little more about the last turn, I might have pulled out a win. As it was, it was a close game. That one I will be getting to use in my summer gaming class, and also with the teens at church. Once you know the game, it runs very quickly. I do need to figure out why I cannot roll dice in a game. Maybe a reverse Psi power is at work?
