Well, the sun is shining through the front window, and there is a big area of sunshine on the carpet. Normally, in past years, there would be two to three cats squabbling over who gets what spot, and it would be fun to watch them sorting out their pecking order. Generally, the male cats lost out, but sometimes the females were a bit slow, and the males got a good spot. Now, there are no cats arguing over what spots there are, and it is driving me nuts. We have had at least one cat since November of 1975, when we adopted our first cat from the Anchorage, Alaska animal shelter. We have had as many as five at one time, which lead to lots of litter box cleaning. They all had different personalities, and many times I thought that I would give a lot to get inside one of their brains just for 10 seconds to find out what they were thinking.

Now, when I come home from running errands, there is no one to greet me when I come in. The house just feels very odd. My wife is not noticing it that much as she leaves for the tax office around 9 AM when I am here, and she is getting home around 9 PM, if she is lucky. Later is not that unusual. A long day for her, but she gets a kiss and hug when she gets home and when she leaves.

As soon as tax season is over, we have agreed that we are going cat shopping, and I strongly suspect that our daughter will be coming along as well. She has been posting pictures of cats and kittens for adoption on my wife's Facebook page for a week or so. She figures that she might inherit any cat or cats that we adopt, so she wants to join in the search.

I am counting down the days until April 17th for more than one reason. Why April 17th you say? Because there are always the people who come in at 8 at night on April 15th with a tax return that is going to take several hours, and should have been done in March. So they get appointments for April 16 and 17th.

Have you gotten your taxes done yet if in the U.S.? Canada taxes are due on April 30 for those in our northern neighbor.
