There are times when I wonder if I live on the same planet as some of the other members of the forum. There is the current discussion of whether or not you can go anywhere on this planet, or ship to anywhere on this planet within a couple of days, assuming that you have unlimited funds. The problem that they holders of this view do not bother to consider is that very few people or organizations on this planet have unlimited funds to spend how they want too. They also do not plug into the equation of foreign custom officers blocking items until the necessary bribe is paid, which happens a lot more often that is admitted, or the fact that checking baggage on an airline to certain countries is considered an open invitation upon arrival for theft.

There seems to be an automatic assumption that because things work in a certain way where they live, that this is the case everywhere. That is very far from the reality of it. Try to get a permit for a new Protestant Church in Indonesia, and if by a miracle it is actually granted, prepare for having the construction materials stolen or burned, and the church bombed if it actually gets built. Note, no one will ever be found guilty, or even charged, with these acts.

I keep thinking that it would be great if some of the forum actually had to deal with trying to get something into another country, but then, they probably would not comprehend the headaches, and simply pay whatever bribes are needed. After all, it is just a one time thing, right?

If that's what you understood from my comments in the threads, then I must have explained myself very poorly... Let me try again: I agree in many parts of Earth you may have many problems in sending/getting any material, but those are bureaucratic (or corruption) problems (something, BTW, you can also find in Traveller, and even lead to interesting red herrings or adventures), but there is no physical limit, as is in Traveller (the jump time). So, in Traveller you may have all the same problems that you can on current Earth, plus the jump time, usually to send the order and to receive the needed thing.

Or maybe they just want to have fun and not deal with reality since sometimes reality sucks butt-cheese and we game to get away from that. Sometimes you have to put reality in shelf and remember it's a game. Plus this is funny from a guy whose TU seems rife with monsters and casual homocide what with all the shooting people for various crimes, spacing Stewards who can't cook like a 1950 military mess cook, and various intelligent species who eat other intelligent species.
