It appears that either the powers that be did not like the Notre Dame post in Random Static, or some cretin on the forum complained and they followed the do not offend anyone who complains about anything having to do with religion being posted. In some respects, this does confirm my view that the forum is basically anti-religious, along with having a strong tendency to view criminal behavior on the part of player characters as acceptable in the game.

As a response to at least the criminal b ...More Read More

At what point in a thread is it acceptable to say that something is simply "not Traveller" even if the thread is the My Own Traveller Universe. The following has been posted there.

Traders and such always work for someone: probably a corporation who is chartered by a noble. It's difficult to be unaffiliated in the Main Sequence setting, if you want to have any kind of power at all. Or if you want to have a starship (which is a special kind of power). Note that control of starships is manage

We played Russian Rails at church on Monday night, but put in one of the optional rules of having the slower trains run at 12 mileposts per move, and the fast trains run at 16 mileposts per move. That definitely helped the game work better. However, the first game I started out in the middle of the board, which meant that the cities were a bit far apart, so that making contracts took both more time in the sense of moves, and more cost for the longer track runs. It did not work out very well. ...More Read More

There are quite a few comments on the forum which assume that criminal activity on the part of players with their characters is perfectly okay. This has also been sanctioned in some of the Traveller materials. Personally, I find this both offensive and disturbing.

How many of the players would instantly offer a bribe to a police officer it stopped for speeding, or being drunk while driving, with the automatic assumption that the police officer would instantly accept the bribe? How many ...More Read More

I hopefully will get some time this week to work on my sector and also the S1889 campaign. Life does get in the way sometimes.

One thing about the forum is that it does simulate the mind to think about things that have not surfaced yet. The question about starports outside of the Imperium got me to thinking about the starports in the new sector. They will be different from the standard types, but just how much different I am still working on. I am thinking that both A and B can build sta ...More Read More

I had a good time with my daughter, her husband, and her father-in-law playing games today. To start off, I got a text message from my daughter not to buy any donuts, which I had not planned to do as none of us really need them. When they arrived, aside from about 10 possible games to play, they had a great big box of very good donuts and pastries. We sort of pigged out on them instead of the healthy snacks that my wife has prepared, although I did have some of the apples that she sliced up a ...More Read More

It was an interesting day at the church. Four teens showed up, all of whom I know and have been mentoring. We ended up playing Russian Rails, the rail-building game for the USSR/Russia. The USSR disintegrates during the game, which makes things a bit more complicated. We also could have used another packet of money, but that is a minor point. There are some wrinkles in that game that are not in any of the other games, which make it a bit more challenging. I am not sure if five players are ...More Read More

It looks like my last blog post scared everyone off. I was not sure what would happen, but as I said, this blog does not necessarily apply to Traveller or any other game for that matter. If a mention of Johnathan Edwards sermon or a Bible Study scares you off, you might want to take stock of yourself.

I did run around a lot today to try and get ready for a game day at my church, at their request. It is Spring Break here, and the thought was that some of the older teens might want to play ...More Read More

I never promised that this blog would be totally about Traveller or Space-1889, or politically correct, but more about my daily thoughts, as the title says. If you have been reading either my posts in the forum, or Moot, or here, you might have figured out that I am a fairly conservative Christian, with more than a bit of seminary background. Now, if that sort of background would tend to offend you, you can either stop reading at this point, or read on and either be offended or possibly educa ...More Read More

My wife and I went to Red Lobster on Sunday to have a nice dinner as a bit of a break from tax season. As we were getting ready to leave, we were bundling up our leftovers to take home to eat later. I happened to look over at the booth next to ours, and someone had left about a half plate of shrimp and French Fries behind when they left. Then I made a run to the rest room, and as I walked back I saw another booth where the people had left behind several plates of food that they had not eaten ...More Read More
