A really well written book by David Weber regarding intelligent marsupials from a parallel universe wreaking havoc on civilizations. Weber probably chose said animal as the bad guys because they are ill tempered.

The reason I like this book so much is because it's a true military scifi book that doesn't have some psychiatric character study, but is a true story of Events A, B and C happen to characters D, E anf F, to result in X, Y, and Z, and with a lot of well textured and descriptive pro ...More Read More

Harry Harrison authored a trilogy starting with "Wheel World" about a Londoner who is saved from drowning by an Israeli submarine in a dystopic future where society is divided into the elite privileged and proles.

One of the interesting things about the cover art is that the main character is wielding Star Wars' weaponry. A stormtrooper blaster, a lightsaber and Han Solo sidearm, and a storm trooper longarm on the last cover. I'm guessing they didn't have too much faith in the series and s ...More Read More

This is probably one of the first science fiction books I ever read way back in the late 70s, a few years after it was first published. The first novel I ever read was Tolkien's "The Hobbit", which as a boy I enjoyed very much. But the continuation of the adventures of the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise was something I couldn't pass up.

New Voyages 2 is an interesting read. There's some experimental fiction, some gender and gender identity politics in a story or two, and there's even a gen ...More Read More

I thought I first bought "Renaissance" as a TIMESCAPE novel by one of the big publishers (DEL REY I think).

We follow a main character who is on an Earth where all the men literally wear rose colored glasses to keep their sexual desires in check.

Reading this book as a teen on the bus I chagrinned. It really seemed like a pointless story, but the setting was kind of interesting. In the end the main character, who happens to be an electronic's engineer, gains access to a portal and con ...More Read More

So, we can't go to Cloud City. The city from Flash Gordon and Star Trek's Stratos upon which it is based, is as real as its predecessors. Which is too bad, because I could really dig getting an apartment on Cloud City.

So, let me open a new chapter in my Traveller Web Log. Originally I was going to start a Travelogue of places within the OTU, but I'm not sure whether the Hochiken People's Assembly is a human dominated empire or not. It's encased in green borders on Travellermap, but ther ...More Read More

So, Luke gets his hand hacked off when Vader parries him, and forces onto that antenna thing jutting out from that other structure jutting out into Cloud Cities central core. So, what was I thinking at that moment? I guess itís been so long that I canít rightfully remember, but I think I was of the mindset that Luke would pull a rabbit out of his hat, or that Leia and Lando would fly down that chute and rescue him. But I did have the idea that Luke would stare down Vader somehow, and not rea ...More Read More

A Traveller TV series concepts;

1) Each episode blends into the next. That is the final scene of one episode is the opening scene of the next

2) Possibly rotate the crew, and focus on a type-S or Florian scout. And then after a season or two, switch ships.

3) Donít be a afraid to go to really hostile planets; that gas giant from NOVAís documentary that has molten steel rain, or a planet that orbits a sun once every 24 or 48 hours.

4) Thereís probably a lot of vacuum worlds. I hat ...More Read More

So, a lot of people like the second Star Wars' film for the darker feel and high dramas of the Vader-Luke revelations, but also the "Heroics of Luke and Han" as both navigate dangers on Hoth and Bespin.

I like all that stuff, but to me the Vader-Luke drama wasn't all that moving Ö or rather I didn't feel the high emotional impact a lot of other people did. My reaction; "Somebody lied then, and given the huge amount of child psychology and twisting of 'truth' with a smile by teaching me the i ...More Read More

For the first time in well over twenty years or more, life got better. No tragedies, no failed attempts at changing careers, harassment on the wane, people put in their place, my Age of Empires 2 rating has started to climb for the first time in three years, and I was able to crank out a chapter of my knight story, as well as articulate why I hated working on movies.

And it's too bad, because I really love the creative process when I can get motivated and inspired, and see how people react. ...More Read More

I now I've vented a lot of vitriol here, and I am angry beyond belief, but a Traveller film, again, would be aimed at pre-teens to post teens--11 to 25 year olds, with an emphasis on the teen bracket.

So, all those story concepts with deep drama and commentary on contemporary society using Vilani, Soli, Joe Average Imperial, Bwaps / Newts, Vargr, K'Kree, Aslan, et al, will have to wait for another life time for me to get involved.

It took me twenty years to come up with a good Car Wars ...More Read More
