Part of the "investigative team" that looked into Hans Reiser's dealing with Russia and his infamous file system for Linux, conveyed to me a clinical depressive tactic about interfering with a man's hobbies in order to anger him to the point of physical expression, and to give up said pastime in order to embrace romance to calm him down.

I have lost over 20 games in a row due to alleged bad playing, game networks going out of synch (desynching), trolling, players throwing games, or intention ...More Read More

As per my reply to someone over the Steve Jackson Games forum, for over forty years I had been running into one roadblock after another in terms of games; as a hobby and as a potential career path.

The culprit is my mother in Paris, France. And I've been battling her, unknowingly, for over forty years now. Whether it's her hyper-religious concern about the satanic heavy metal "website" that Mike and Sam showed me way back in 84 or thereabouts, the D&D murders from either late 70s or early ...More Read More

So, I've got more observations on science fiction and fantasy, but feel I need a break.

I haven't been motivated to add another chapter to the Imperial Knight story in the fiction section, and I'm suspicious that I was provoked to write it to explore some personal stuff. I really don't have any more personal stuff to vent. I've put it or phrased it in complaints, and think those are about finalized.

A lot of my life has been geared towards meeting certain criteria that my parents outl ...More Read More

Having been exposed to the heavy metal and general rock counter culture that grew out of the 60s civil rights movements, I can safely say that I did not like it. I did not like it on any level just for general societal reasons as well as personal reasons. In the documentary the current editor in chief of the American version of the Heavy Metal adult comic sums it up by stating that he would to the movie high and stare at the screen stating "Wow, that said something...I don't know what, but it ...More Read More

Another thing that makes me scrunch my lips is taking 18th and 17th century pirates, and putting them into the high middle ages setting.

*sigh*

The middle ages had piracy, but typically the vessels were either longboat like or castle like. Typically the drommond or caraval had what's known as a Fore Castle, or Forward Castle. It was just as the name suggests, a wooden version of a crenelated castle battlement or turret, though usually rhombic like to match the form factor of the ship's ...More Read More

I guess in the end my gripe is with marketers who've pushed the fantasy genre beyond the breaking point, and how newer and younger people being exposed to the genre really don't know any better about the historical origins of folklore and fantasy, and how things have just become to contorted to the point of being ludicrous and unrecognizable as having anything to do with the historic basis and frame work from which all that mythology originates.

And it's not like this is anything new bec ...More Read More

There's various reasons I don't like the contemporary fantasy genre, and I've vented about this before, so just move on if you're not into hearing me vent (again).

The Female Fantasy model of business and marketing has been with us since the 70s. Mary Tyler Moore, Rhoda, Alice, a bunch of other shows catering to the fairer sex for a number of reasons starting in the early 70s. Not a big deal.

What the heck does this have to do with the Fantasy genre? Well, the damsel in distress has ...More Read More

I like traditional European fantasy. I grew up with tales from European folklore, including but not limited to Tolkien's offerings, and various tales about dwarves, trolls, orcs, knights, fairies, princes, princesses, kingdoms, good kings, bad witches, beautiful queens, dragons and the like.

It's the stuff for a lot of fantasy RPGs, although, to me, it seems like a lot of contemporary RPG offerings, with each successive "generation" or RPGs, just get more "out there".

I remember seeing a ...More Read More

There's a VA medical tech who knows who I am and has been trolling me on Steam.

As of a half hour ago he blamed me for losing a match of Insurgency Sandsgtorm, and then proceeded to use the N-word to describe black people.

I'm not a big champion of civil rights, but I do object to racism on game servers, especially when I've paid money for a good gaming experience. I don't particularly like the use of racist terminology in private venues.

Said game was Insurgency Sandstorm, and this g ...More Read More
