If I want to see serious classic 1960s Star Trek or classic Twilight Zone and Outer Limits like science fiction again, I'm going to have to make it myself.

Going over my library of books in the genre, and reflecting on stuff that's meant for kids, pre-teens, teens and adults, the real deep serious stuff, the stuff that's noted for quality, is outweighed by tons of juvenile versions of the same genre.

So it is that when I see a new property of adventure in space come onto the scene I fin ...More Read More

I'm still thinking about the D&D retrospective the NY Times did, and the huge amount of money that went into "saving my soul" from the satanic torments of Dungeons and Dragons (we're talking millions, folks).

I hesitated a long time to respond, but I finally fired off an angry, poorly composed, email to the party in question, residing in Paris France. This whole "save Ghost's soul from the satanic ravages of Dungeons and Dragons" has been going on for DECADES.

Ironic too, since the lon ...More Read More

Well, that's what JJ Abrams says about people who hated the last Jedi flick.

I don't know. He may have something, but I'm not really convinced of his position. That, and I'm not a big SW fan. That, and the negative reviews and comments I've read ... well, half come from women, so ... if I were a female, I would be doing the "women who hate women" thing. Maybe. Again, I'm not convinced of this argument. ...More Read More

So, here's a restrospective on the D&D scare from the 70s and 80s.

I'll note this; since cavemen were swinging clubs at one another, typically we, mankind, have employed clubs and swords to do combat with fellow human beings. We even romanticize that in novels and movies, especially in Golden Era Hollywood where pirate films and medieval adventure films were all the rage. But the Texas sheriff who is featured in this piece, seems to have forgotten this.

The Banshee fighter in one of my stories is based off of the old Starfleet Wars Terran Comet "light fighter".

The "Comet" is in fact a "seriel-numbers filed off" Viper from Battlestar Galactica, only it has a dorsal turret, has two engines instead of three, no intakes, and a bubble canopy with four missiles slung under her.

Eh, I never got into the game, but I purchased some of the minis over the years starting ... around ... 1979 or so, ...More Read More

Some recton;

Luke would not have vanished. Han and Leia would have had a beautiful family, replete with grand kids ... cast a better looking actor for Ben Solo. Maybe give him a different first name.

The Republic is thriving. Jedi and security are everywhere. Pockets of racist storm troopers abound like dissassociated fringe "alt right" groups. Then the heavy comes in, and tries to unite them.

Rifts in society take place. Out of work Humans (mostly male) recalling the "glories" ...More Read More

Thanks for the star rating on my blog, and thanks for putting up with my shortcomings. I'm back on course. Where it'll take me, I know not. I hope it'll involve the Spinward Marches, but if not, well, there's always the Pavonis Sector, the Terran Trade Authority, the UFP, and beyond.

Now, let's see if I can get some painting done, catch up on bills, and start construction of a scale model type-S.

I'm giving up on giving amazon anymore of my dinero. I've seen lots of local businesses close, and I couldn't understand why given the economy was strong. However, the retail venue is stronger online than in person, ergo I'm going to make it a point of being an in-person customer than a UPS / Fed-Ex junkie (and yes, I know that amazon has its own delivery service I discovered last year).

I haven't ordered much from Amazon in the last month or so, and intend to keep it that way. I ...More Read More

Against my better judgment (and I sincerely mean that), I went and saw the lastest Star Wars' film, and boy do I regret it. I just posted the following review on the IMDB, and felt compelled, for whatever reason, to post it here. One of the things that really soured the experience for me was all the rumbling coming out of the speakers from all the previews. Scifi films that present the aura of being "important" and "profound", but are just comic book fare dressed up with a lot of sound-effe ...More Read More

I'm way too fat. Double chin, pot belly ... oh my. How did I get like this? Too much Age of Empires and Counter Strike Global Opposition. Way too much.

If I die of a cardiac event on some trail, well, you'll know it was a good cause of shedding pounds.
