Back in the 80s there was a huge effort by a variety of people to bring computerized automation to table top games.

The only problem with that is that part of the experience is actually holding your character sheet or combat sheet and looking at your character's, combat vehicles, starship's stats, and making decisions based on what's in your hand before you move your piece or roll the dice.

Half Life was the game DOOM wanted to be. Both have teleportation incidents, but there's more story to Half Life than to DOOM.

It's just my usual idiocy latently kicking in from all the TSRs I've had running since I was a pre-teen or before, eating up my wetware's RAM and processing power.

I mean Teleportation accidents are kind of old hat for scifi, but I'm guessing the ID guys used demons and what not because they didn't have the resources to create a larger scheme of art like Valv ...More Read More

So, I'm watching my Region 4 VISVISION / MADMAN release of the Seaquest TV series, and yeah, it's for teenagers and the general family with an emphasis on the pre-teen bracket. The Seaquest itself suffers the same design flaws of the Voyager from Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, in that it's not very aquadynamic, and is more of a space ship like design a-la a scifi series (which it ultimately became) as opposed to a near future "speculative fiction" type of show--which is how it started out.

So apparently conversation is a means of getting people with buckshot thought processes back on track.

In spite of my over analysis of Traveller, scifi, fantasy and other junk, I'm actually pretty straight forward in emails and direct face to face conversation.

So, on that note, . do I resent it? Yeah, because I don't "hear voices" in my head I don't think i'm Napoleon, or any such BS. I'm just a normal PO'd dude whose mother used psychiatry like some people use aspirin.

The first FPS game I ever played was some maze thing for the IBM PC back in the mid 80s (84? I'm not sure). You controlled a cross hair, walked through an endless maze, and shot stuff or interacted with it. It may have been provided by Prodigy (the "ISP" of its day), but again I can't be certain.

The point being that DOOM was not the first FPS. But it was an interesting game, and brought to scifi computer fans alike the real-time "shooter" that, at the time, was the holy grail of gamin ...More Read More

The graphics are sexier, the weapons are more tangible and fleshed out, there's humor, there's romance, there's Barney the conspiracy theorist security guard, head crabs, one of the generic scientists from the first game what's not to like?

Because some POS Hollywood screenwriter dipped his pen (to keep it G-rated) into a hole where it didn't belong.

Half Life started out as a mod for Quake 2. When Quake 2 came out I of course bought it, and got reasonably good at it. Some time after that Half Life came out. I can't remember how long it was...checking...Wiki says a year. Eh, that doesn't sound right, but either way I skipped it for the longest time. I didn't buy it until sometimes in the early 2000s.

This is more of a general thoughts on media in general, though leaning towards the science fiction genre.

Ever since I was a kid watching Captain Kangaroo in the morning and cartoons after school, as well as Star Trek and sitcoms, I've always had a sense of the shows being incomplete or holding something back.

God Bless Dancouga is another mecha "united we stand" themed anime that is so pervasive in a lot of Japanese animated media offerings. It's ostensibly meant for the pre-teen to high school crowd, but has enough production value to be appealing to all audiences.
