I am trying to figure out how much longer to engage in the battleship discussion for a Tech Level 5 ship. I am getting the feeling that I am getting pretty much ignored, and I am not sure I want to invest a whole lot of time commenting on someone who has already made up his mind as to his correctness, or at least the viability of the rules that he is pushing. One of the guys from the Cepheus Engine group is snooping around here. Now I have to decide if I simply quit posting anything having to do with my ideas. I clearly need to avoid making any more comments about the rules or derivatives, as I already have at least one moderator on my case. My experience with moderators is that they would all love to ban me on any possible excuse, a couple in particular. I was just poking around at some of the blog controls, and discovered that someone REALLY DOES NOT LIKE my comment on Christians being killed. While guests can view a blog, they cannot comment on it, so that sort of narrows down who might have viewed it so negatively. I guess I hit a nerve somewhere. I thought about putting this along with the Cepheus Engine material, but decided to post it separately. I am not sure if it made a lot of national headlines, but it did make the Chicago ones. Over the past couple of days a woman, her daughter, and one of them's boyfriend, strangled a pregnant 19 year old who was 9 months pregnant, cut the bady our of her once she was dead, so that the older woman could claim it as hers. My guess is that the guys are the Cepheus Engine do not exactly like me, as aside from panning their new vehicle design guide, I keep asking questions about the System Reference Document. I have no idea as to why adding armor to a ship should take up 5% of the ship's volume for every add. Material used for armor tends to be dense, not as light as Liquid Hydrogen. Now if adding that armor does take up that much volume of a ship, then punching a hole in it with a laser is going to take some do ...More Read More

Aside from asking about the issue of what volume is meant by a displacement ton, I have tossed a few other examples of errata or confusion in the rules out and so far, no response. The more I look in detail at the rules, the more questions I have about them is certain areas. Armor is one of the big issues, and how armor values seem to be tossed around with no real rhyme or reason. Then there is the issue of the take-off of a standard-configured ship. Basically, I am putting my Ship Construction Designer's Notes for the Cepheus Engine on the forum, describing how I am coming to the conclusions that I am. I still need to determine what to do with respect to the Liquid Hydrogen requirement of the Jump Drive. As I am increasing crew sizes by about a factor of 3 at least, plus boosting the maintenance fee, and changing the crew pay, I am not sure if having the Jump Drive require 10% of the hull displacement times the Jump Number is viable any ...More Read More

An interesting snippet showed up the other day in the local paper. It seems that the levels of the Great Lakes are considerably above average, with Lake Superior probably looking as some record highs. Superior is about 3 feet above the normal average, while Michigan-Huron are about 2 feet. The records only go back about a century, so not exactly that long term. Well, I will have to see how much hot water I get into for giving a not exactly favorable review for the new Cepheus Engine Vehicle Design Guide. That was based on looking it over somewhat quickly, looking at stuff that I know a fair amount about. It would be nice if people doing these would spend a bit more time in research before putting them out. Well, now that I have determined that speculative trading might be a bit more lucrative than I thought, once I plugged in stowage factors, I have to deal with the fallout.
